As a newbie I haven't had much experience with charge controller or solar in general yet I've decided to build a small off-grid cabin and learn quickly. I had already owned a few pieces of gear in a portable kit I built for camping use. I have added to/replaced all of that gear up to the 18$ charge controller. Each step yielded a massive difference in how quickly the battery bank was charged but none as much as the MSC Classic. MPPT technology is no joke and should be considered a necessary to any solar system you will be using in multiple day stretches. I will admit to only using it in it's most basic form but by design; my system will utilize many of the features it has. Performance: 400 Watts of panels in 12v configuration with a 400ah battery bank - from 60% to 89-90% charge before took the entire 3.5 hour direct sunlight hours to replenish with the prior unit. I can replenish with the MSC C150 in less than an hour and reach more capacity in the battery bank. Thanks for taking me to a level above hobby Midnight Solar.Read full review

pro, max power from the panels you have. there is a learning curve, but it pays you handsomely. I rewired all my panels into series instead of parallel (280 watt panels) and instead of charging at 32 volts with 17 amps on a good day, I now realize 66.5 volts at 30 amps. There are other things you will learn, but after comparing this with all other controllers on the market, to date this is the BEST of all choices outside of (maybe) Nasa hardware. the programming can be off-putting at first, but Midnite tech support has always been there for me, a phone call away. The videos they publish for Youtube are also great help! I can't really think of any BAD things about the Midnite controllers, people could complain about the price (people usually always do) but I learned the hard way, it's better to buy the best, buy one and done, than have a string of controllers around the house that proved inadequate one way or another. probably the best solar controller for the price. extremely good support. continuous firmware updates. cloud based access to data. and it is mostly made in the USA.
