The Turbografx 16 has an 8-bit main processor and a 16-bit graphics processor. This gives the Turbografx 16 games a distinctive look and feel. Think somewhere between NES and SNES. Sidescrolling platforming games are bright and colorful, and the system excels in the shooter genre. Games like Blazing Lazers look and play wonderfully, and with the 16-bit graphics processor, there is none of the classis NES "slowdown" when there are a lot of sprites on the screen. The controller also has built in adjustable turbo, which is actually required at different times in certain games. A great hidden gem of a classic console.

I rarely use superlatives, but this time I have to make an exception. This is by far the best purchase I had on ebay and this console, TurboGrafx-16 is easily my most valuable item. But this is not just regular TurboGrafx console, this is highly customized version that in many ways improved on original hardware. And what most amazed me was that it was flawlessly done and not some cut and past hack job. No, this is factory quality work, done by very skillful hands. At first, I inspected unit as whole and it looked like new. I couldn't discover any significant wear or scratches or anything that could hint on any damage. It was as I bought it new. Everything is cleaned and polished and it just looks great. What completely blew me away was custom work done on the console. It has composite video output! That means that the sound coming from is now stereo and it can be played on modern TV sets as well. Another thing that I found simply amazing is that it had regional switch and now PC Engine games can be played as well. And all it takes is one simple push of the button. When turned on, TurboGrafx logo is brightly lit and I really though it looked beautiful. It added so much life and charm to the console that I have hard time to describe. The best is to see for yourself. It also game with TurboGrafx-16 controller, A/C adapter and some very cool games. Before I end, I have to say that this is my very first review in many years i've been on bay. But I simply had to do it, because this was my best purchase in years and. I highly recommend to get one to all collectors or gamers. it is worth every single penny and I can guarantee that you will be very happy with the purchase and it will give you hours and hours of retro gaming pleasure.Read full review
By the time I owned one of these in the early 90s, it was already discontinued and games were scarce. Now with the World Wide Web, it’s game on for the TG-16! Games are reasonably priced and eBay is rife with them. Opening the box with its hot orange, pink and black color scheme just feels like the late 80s...it’s a 16 bit-ish console with almost an entire library of exclusives lost in time and TG-16 only arcade ports of the time. If you collect late 80s video games and consoles, this is a must. Don’t think about it, BUY it.

This system is not only a rarity as well as a gem! I have noticed that several merchants are "modding" the original RF connection to 3 way RCA hookups. I DO NOT recommend this as it depletes the originality of the vintage system. To avoid a snowy picture purchase a "Gold Coax Cable" along with an "RF Adapter" both item are roughly about a $9 investment. Thus you receive a crystal clear picture if not BETTER than the RCA modded systems. It also enables you to keep the system in its original state.

*********Own a piece of video game console history & collect this system which has become rare. All UNITS come from personal collections & have been tested before being advertised ************ Collectability: B-. For fans on the 16-bit era, the T-16 is a fun system to collect for. In general, the games for both systems tend to be easy to play and have an appealing arcade quality. In addition, most of the titles were not released on other consoles. A Turbografx-16 console is easy and cheap to acquire, but the Turbo Duo or Japanese PC ENGINE DUO can be an alternate system to collect. Complete games tend to START around the $20 price mark. Innovations: 16-bit graphics processor, CD attachment, multi-player tap accessory, turbo control switches built-into control which NINTENDO & SEGA did not do . One of the most under appreciated game consoles of all time, the TG16 had a short life. But is you’re a fan of side scrolling action or shooters this will be a great system for you. You’ll also find some quirky genres like pinball on here. Some good games to pick up would be the Bonk series, Alien Crush & Devils Crush (pinball), Blazing Lazers, Neutopia (think Zelda), Dungeon Explorer (Gauntlet), & Military Madness (turn based strategy). Those will get you collection started off right. And if you a fan of video game music you can’t go wrong here. The tunes on most TG16 games were catchy & you had them stuck in your head later. Good 16-bit era graphics (with an 8-bit system processor), for the era. The controller just fits in your hand nicely. Turbo buttons were a catchy trend at the time, they are built into the controller. Give the TG16 a shot. It’s a fun little system that is sadly fading into time.Read full review

Its a great console for anyone that likes the retro gaming, It came out in North America late August of 1989. Its was a direct competitor with the NES, and the sega mega drive. It has a wide collection of (HuCards)their game cartridge format and the Japanese games are playable on the turbo grafx 16 but you need a converter generally they are over priced and hard to find, they also have a cd attachment Japanese games will work with the CD attachment but you will need a system card 3.0, turbo booster which changes it's hook up cables to RCA instead of COAX cable.
This was the one system I lent out to a friend in High School who didn't return it. Kicked myself for not getting it back. Forgot all about the hours of fun and cutting edge graphics at that time. I still remember R-Type in full speed is nearly impossible to beat. You need a slow motion controller (6 button beast). Now I get to relive all those memories over again. Love it!!!
