This is an entry-level plastic body keyboard which may look and feel cheap, and most of the sounds are quite basic. If you need superb pianos, organs and strings this won’t cut it, although it does have a few good Fender type EP’s and also some very good Motif guitars, flutes and horns. The reason I now own two of these is because I play funk music and this keyboard has powerful basses, pads and leads with cutoff and resonance. The phenomenal value becomes apparent in its effects processor, ability to layer two sounds on the right and have a split point which is editable, the ability to store up to 64 user performances to recall on the fly, a sequencer, user patterns, DAW link etc. So this is actually a secret weapon for me and I do love the rear slant design of the body which makes it look great Read full review

I am pleased with this keyboard. Nice big warm Yamaha sound and capability at a very, very low price. Pros will find this keyboard lacking because of limitations with the split and octave shift capability; this keyboard has both, but you can really only impact one side of the keyboard (hard to explain in a short review). However, as a hobbyist, or for a second keyboard or midi controller, this keyboard works just fine. I also enjoy how lightweight it is; I can carry the keyboard, stand and all peripherals in one case, with one hand. To get a keyboard this light, you give up weighted action keys; but they are still touch sensitive which is all I needed for my purpose.
First off, the MM6 sounds fantastic. It has a great piano sound, a couple really nice EP sound, fantastic pads and strings. It has the MOTIF Saxophone sound that you've heard so much about. If you want a 61-key keyboard to play out live, or play in the studio, then this keyboard will meet your needs. The four real time control knobs are a nice touch, and provide very flexible control over your sounds. Now for the not so nice stuff. As you might expect, it is flimsy and cheaply made. It feels like a toy. Don't drop it from four feet, or knock it off your keyboard stand. it probably will break. Others have reported problems with the LCD screen failing. And, most horrible of all is the crippled MIDI implementation. Do NOT buy this device if you plan on using it with a different Master Controller. If you want to use it as a tone generator for your computer, fine, but without the computer, the MIDI implementation on this is completely useless. There is no GLOBAL MIDI channel, no way to assign patches to different MIDID channels, etc. IT has no sequencer, you cannot edit the sounds very easily or very deeply, etc... In the price range, I'd recommend the Korg X50. It is ALSO cheaply made, but it has full MIDI capabilities, works great as a tone Generator, and has FOUR distinct Audio Outs.Read full review
Great keyboard for the contemporary composer. Easy to use and light weight. Variety of onboard patterns tons of great voices. I am an arranger and composer in my late 50's so I found this board a little too contemporary for my needs. Traded it for a PSR S650 which had more of what I needed (variety of time signatures already available) onboard and required less programming. However for a younger composer who would relate more to contemporary music styles this would be a great board. Lots of hip hop, rap and rock patters already onboard. None of the internal patterns used other than 4/4 time or variations of that time signature. Would have prefered some 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures. You can create your own however. However I wanted to use what the board had already internall set up and minimize the custom work, so this was not exactly what I wanted. My nephew loves it! It has all of the rhythms he likes right there.Read full review
We were looking for a backup/second keyboard to play along side our Korg LE. The MM6 did not disappoint. While it is not an LE, this little Synth can hold it's own in the sounds. Piano, strings, EPs, Brass, Bass, etc are all on par with the LE. And we had tried for a few years to get that Yamaha EP sound from the Korg, and while close, could not quite get it there. Sounds like Yamaha's Motif based "Cool! Galaxy EP" and other EP voices are classics that are still some of my favorites and cumbersome to duplicate exactly on other keyboards. As noted in other reviews, the MM6 is a bit plastic to the feel in both the case and keys. But not any more so than other keyboards in this price range. The feel is not the Korg LE, but it is OK. One small thing I did notice was the "touch sensitivity" is a bit lacking. Even in the softest of settings, it still is not overly "touch sensitive". Kind of an On-or-Off effect. Not bad, just not great - lacks that "real" feel. Over all if you are looking for a great, user friendly, budget keyboard, AND you dont need to layer more than 2 voices nor need extensive workstation capabilities, the MM6 will exceed your expectations. It has mine and is perfect for my needs.Read full review
