Gone With the Wind, NOT GONE, it's still here.....
Nice love story. I wish I have a woman whose love for me is like Scarlet's love for Ashley.....I decided to buy this as it is in VHS format and in an unused deluxe edition. Movies in VHS format are disappearing and they don't make movies anymore in VHS format. The Deluxe VHS edition is in itself a collector's item. buy it while it is still cheap. I prefer this to the DVD format. I also have the DVD to watch the movie again whenever I feel like it. My VHS format is kept as a collector's item and it's good to display as it is in a beautiful big box unlike the ordinary vhs box.Nice love story. The story alone is brilliant, heartbreaking, and tragic. The acting is superb--beyond anything most movies accomplish in this era. Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Olivia D'Havilland, Leslie Howard and Hattie McDaniel so personify their characters that no one else could ever fill those shoes (just try watching the movie version of the sequel--OUCH). The costumes and sets were a marvel at the time of production. To write a review on one of the Best Movies ever made? Is that even possible for me to do? The historical significance of this movie is very important. The novel, "Gone With the Wind," was written in 1936, and the movie, "Gone With the Wind," was made in 1939. Consider, that the events in the novel, and movie, are historically closer when made than we are to the movie. The Civil War ended in 1865, and represents only the 1st half of the movie. The date 1865 is only 74 years before the movie was made in 1939, and that is 72 years ago! The younger generation have never seen this movie before! My girl felt like a culture nerd because her dad made her suffer seeing the movie, "High Noon!" Much has been written about the movie itself, the historical signifigance is what I wanted to touch ...
