Value is the strength of this receiver.
Buying a receiver in this price range is all about affordability and features which together define value. This receiver delivers in that department. Typically available for less than $125 this AVR ticks nearly all the feature boxes. It has 4 HDMI inputs, Dolby True HD & DTS Master HD sound capability with other 5.1 decoding options. The audio quality is very good and the design is clean and attractive. The limitations are a lack of connectivity for older gear (Component input) and the need for a separate amplifier for 7.1 systems. If you want rear surround speakers you must use a 2nd amp. For those on a budget these are not likely to be real shortcomings. This would be an excellent choice for a budget home theater system.
Clean sound, very easy hookup. Setup is somewhat complicated, but that can be expected if you want better than "Off the Rack" sound. To get the full benefit of this unit, you'll have to actually read the manual... as a guy I realize this might pose a problem. Once the system is configured for YOUR speakers, YOUR room, and YOUR relative position to the speakers, the experience is mind blowing!. The HDMI hookup means that the inputs will not look like a scene from a mad scientist's lab. Both optical and digital coax inputs (easily assignable) mean older equipment is still compatible (yes, it does have analog inputs as well). If your looking to attach your turntable to this, you'll either be disappointed or good at "mcgyvering" a solution. Remote is fairly clean and straight forward.Clean sound, very easy hookup. Great bang for the buck.
Doesn't have some of the bells and whistles as does the new Denons or the 7.2 or 9.2 systems, but very nice, sleek, and meets my needs for a living room theater just fine. Loud and clear.
