    Good, cheap, manual lens

I bought this lens to use with an adapter with my Olympus mirrorless. At less than half the price of a used u4/3 prime, it seemed like a good option for a focal length I don't plan to use too often. Even with the adapter, the lens is size-appropriate for a small body mirrorless. A bit longer than my u4/3, but similar weight and width. Images are sharp enough for my purposes. Pixel-peepers may find some softness in the corners wide-open and some purple fringing. Both can be corrected, either by stopping down or fixing in post. This is the reason for 4 star instead of 5 star. For use on a OM film camera, these issues may not be present. Various photo forums report the higher SN examples of this lens have better coatings on the glass and produce better results. I have no idea if it's ...

    serviceable after a little TLC

Clear image but rather stiff and difficult to mount on the camera. I think it just needs a good cleaning.

  • Not the best optics, but good enough

This is a good compact lens made for the OM series cameras (non-digital). But don't get me wrong. This little jewel can be put on DSLR cameras, via lens adapters, and use manual focus. I placed one similar on my Canon 7D and the clarity is fantastic. Granted, there are better lenses on the market at much higher costs, but not much better than what most people need for solid photography. When I shoot portraits, I go with better quality glass, but then again I pay for it. The average photographer can use this lens for family events, pets, street photography, and much more... and it is good enough.

  • A classic film lens that finds a new home in the digital future.

This lens is a very popular item for OM series film SLRs. It is very usable on modern micro four thirds cameras, such as the E-PL1. Note, these newer cameras have a crop factor of 2x, so on this camera this becomes a very nice 100mm lens! Four out of five stars because there is a better 50mm/1.4 version out there, but for more money. If you just want to play around with old manual focus lenses on a micro four thirds camera, this is a great one to start with.

  • Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm f1.8, DSLRs and You

I bought one of these to have a fast 50mm lense for my E500. I also bought a box of them from a seller here on eBay. They all cleaned up very nicely and are now in the hands of happy DSLR users. After seeing how well the less than perfect lenses performed I spent the extra money and acquired one in perfect condition with not one disappointment. The lense has excellent imaging capabilities. I saw no typical flaring when the sun was behind my subjects or ghosts. Everything was crisp and sharp even with the extremes of lighting situations. I give it very high marks when used with extension tubes or a bellows for close up images. Where I've seen other lenses start to fail this one seems to get better. My suggestion is look for the ones with the black edges around the f/stop ring and ...
