  • Henry Fielding's Tom Jones

I liked it the first time I saw it. I may even like it more when I get the chance to watch it again (5 hours) straight through. I mainly got it because I picked up the book and it was SO-- terribly long. I started to read it, but felt I needed a translator like in school for Romeo and Juliet. I decided to watch the movie instead. Maybe now that I have seen it, I can enjoy the book more. The characters in the movie were very likeable. I must say that all the ranting and screaming of Squire Western got old very quickly. Also, I guessed the main character, Tom's identity way before the 5 hours were up, although I will not mention it here what it is. I would recommend it to those who enjoy period movies. Worth watching.

  • Henry Fielding's Tom Jones

What I like about this movie is the span of characters - most of them are exagerated and very over-the-top personalities. It never gets boring! I would not show this movie to children it does have some nudity - and a lot of promescuity goin on. It is a movie about a young man who went crazy in his youth and made a lot of mistakes, but in the end he gets it right. And you have to like him - you can tell that in spite of his stupid choices he has a good heart . Has a great ending. Enjoy!!!

  • Perfect for when you want to watch the whole book.

As a fan of period literature, I had this series in VHS and wanted it in DVD so it would fit in my new cabinet. Tom Jones has a fun story line and it was true in the 1600s as it is today: Just because a person is wealthy, does not mean they have class. The antics of the relatives and friends go on like a high school rumor mill of today, both men and women like to watch this movie with me. Well acted and fun to watch, and yes I'm avoiding any spoilers.

  • An extraordinary adaptation of Tom Jones

This is a wonderful adaptation of the Fielding novel. It captures the wit and fun required and the cast is extraordinary.

  • A fun evening

OK you probably know Tom Jones from the book but this version of the book is in many ways actually better. It is also the best film version ever made. Send the kids to bed, make some popcorn and get ready for a ribald fast paced evening of entertainment.
