Set during the civil war that devastated El Salvador in the 1980s, INNOCENT VOICES tells the wrenching story of Chava, a young boy trying his best to live through the turmoil. At 11 years old, the boy is just one year away from being conscripted into the Salvadorean army. Abandoned by his father and living in an atmosphere of mounting violence, Chava scrounges to help his mother feed the family while also trying to negotatiate the perilous future in store for him, as either a government soldier or rebel guerilla. Based on the life of co-writer Oscar Orlando Torres, this affecting drama marks a major departure for director Luis Mandoki (MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, ANGEL EYES).
