Pretty good movie about a woman (Ashley Judd) framed by her husband for his death. On a luxury sailboat just off the Pacific coast, a seemingly ideal romantic trip goes terribly wrong. Lilly (Judd) wakes up only to find her husband missing, and there is blood everywhere, his blood! There is a knife covered with his blood in the floor, and in typical style, she picks up the knife, hence leaving her fingerprints. Just about this time, the Coast Guard arrives, responding to a frantic distress call from her husband. The scene is so staged that there is no other explanation but murder. Lilly is sent to prison for her husbands murder. With her claims of innocence all ignored, Libby is forced to relinquish custody of her four year old son to her best friend and nanny, Angela. During her time in prison, she discovers that her husband is alive, and living in San Francisco with her son and Angela. After several years in prison, Libby gets out and is sent to a release house, where Travis Lehman (Tommy Lee Jones) is her Parole Officer. He is a no-nonsense, unsympathetic pragmatist. Her story, still unprovable, is scoffed at as just "prisoner denial", and she is warned that for any infraction at all, she will be sent back to jail. Of course she does run and go after her child. Jones chases her all the way to New Orleans where she tracks down her husband, and Jones tracks her down too. They all come together at the same time, and Jones sees that her story is true. In typically predictable fashion, the good guys win, and the bad guy looses, and because of the laws of double jeopardy (hence the movie title) everybody lives happily after. All in all, probably because of a stellar cast, this is an enjoyable film.Read full review
I bought both the vhs and the dvd. I like the vhs better because I can stop it, pause it, rewind it, fast forward it, or shut it off and come back later and pick up where I left off.In other words, the vhs has some better features than dvd. I even bought a new VCR player/recorder over Ebay and now I can enjoy all formats. Caution: the vhs can not be copied to a dvd.
Ashley Judd & Tommy Lee Jones The movie starts out suspensful as Ashley is enjoying a sailing trip and finds her husband dead and blood all over and she is holding the weapon! Ashley is wrongfully accused of murder and Tommy Lee Jones is her probation officer as she escapes a halfway house to seek revenge.
Strong cast, reasonable story line, and if you enjoy seeing the villain get his just desserts....then this is the film for YOU!
