"Halo Wars" for the Xbox 360 offered a new take on a classic franchise at the time of its release in 2009. Rather than being a first-person shooter like the previous Bungie games, "Halo Wars" was a real-time strategy game. Though the genre has changed, the narrative of this game is a classic "Halo" tale. The game takes place 20 years before the events of "Halo: Combat Evolved" for the Xbox. War is just beginning between the Covenant and UNSC forces. When humanity and the Covenant both stumble upon a dormant weapon, they race against each other to take control of it. "Halo Wars" for the Xbox 360 was developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft. This title is compatible with all regions for the Xbox 360, and is also compatible with the Xbox One.In "Halo Wars" for the Xbox 360, you take on the role of a battlefield commander. You have a bird's-eye view of the playing field and are able to direct the course of action. You decide what units to make, and you tell those units when to attack. Victory or defeat rests solely in your hands. While you start with a small base on each map, you'll soon be able to upgrade. With each new upgrade comes brand new units, vehicles, and aircraft. While most real-time strategy games are played with a mouse, "Halo Wars" uses the Xbox 360 controller. However, controlling the action is easy thanks to Ensemble Studios building this game from the ground up for the controller. You can quickly select all units with the press of a button. Radial menus let you quickly select the troops you want to build.Gameplay is based on a system where every unit is strong against one kind but weak against another. Infantry will have an advantage against aircraft while aircraft are useful against vehicles. Vehicles like the Wraith will have no problem mowing down infantry units. This mechanic requires you to create a diverse army and adjust your tactics on the fly. The variety in units ensures that no two games play the same. This Xbox game lets you play as two different sides: Covenant and the UNSC. Each side has their own unique units and playing styles. Halo gamers will recognize units from other games in the series, including "Halo 3" and "ODST." In addition to single-player modes, there are also multiplayer game modes. You can play games either cooperatively or competitively with a friend through the online Xbox Live service.The "Halo Wars Limited Edition" features content you won't find anywhere else. "Halo Wars: Genesis" is a graphic novel included with the limited edition bundle that depicts the events that occurred shortly before the game. You'll receive an exclusive in-game unit for both the UNSC and Covenant factions, each with a unique paint job. These units are available in both single-player games and multiplayer games. You'll also receive digital content for other "Halo" video games on the Xbox. The "Halo 3: Mythic Map Pack" gives you three online multiplayer maps for use in that title. An assortment of limited physical bonuses round out this special "Halo" edition. Gamers will receive a special rubber badge that has the Spirit of Fire emblem on it. You'll also receive six character cards. These cards depict three characters from each side of the war. Like other games in this franchise, this title has a rating of T from the ESRB.

    Halo Wars

    I am a huge fan of Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3. So i want to buy halo wars to have the complete experience with the games. Although the Story line could have been better developed, it was still a fun and challenging campaign. The skirmish and multiplayer experience was very fun and provided me with a good week of entertainment, that i could come back and play again in the future. Although it does not live up to the expectations that i had from the trailer, it did have excellent cinematic videos between campaign missions. I was expecting a massive battle type halo where it would be first person against hundreds of foes at once, but the technology has yet to be developed for that type of game.

    Great console RTS game, Even Better Story

    This is a great piece to the Halo Universe. The story is well developed and fits well within the universe and Halo time-line. After playing out the game in campaign mode, I wanted a sequel to the game. I bought the game for its campaign and its story line and it was well worth it. The multi-player does not offer many modes, but there is a download pack on Xbox Live to get more modes and maps. Would have loved it if you could play as the flood in multi-player but that is not possible. The game took me about 2-3 days to beat in normal difficulty the first time, and about 4 days in Legendary difficulty my second time around at the campaign. Well enjoyed the gameplay and the story-line. If you love RTS games, you will enjoy this (even if there is no mouse for you to use). The control schemes ...

    Great Game!!

    If your a Halo fan (who isn't) that has never really gotten into the RTS games, this is the game for you. Dont be worried about the NERDS who keep bashing this game. I find the people who don't like this game fall into 2 categories. Those who thought it would be a FPS (simple mistake) and the NERDS who live in their mom's basement and play Heroscape, Dungeons and Dragons and Risk. Sorry now for the good stuff. The Graphics are AMAZING! I myself never got into the RTS games cause I dont have 10-12 hours a night to devote to video gaming (unlike the Dungeon and Dragons NERDS who keep bashing this game). Controls are easy but thats great if your new to RTS. The game ties in the HALO series perfectly. So if you like HALO and have a life, this is a nice change of pace from the run and gun ...

    Halo Wars...

    This item is a mediocre must-have for any Halo fan. The game itself is average at best. That is, it doesn't employ what I would consider to be a well-weathered form of RTS gameplay... The cinematic animations are completely incredible, and, if for nothing else, you may consider buying the game just for the extension of the Halo story in a very eye-pleasing display. The extras inside the special edition set are pretty cool. Again, if you enjoy the Halo franchise, you might as well pay the extra money for the special edition set.
