This wacky comedy classic directed by Stanley Kramer features one of the largest collections of American comedians ever brought together on celluloid, resulting in the kind of far-out comic gem that only the 1960s could dish out. Filled with sharp one-liners, plenty of pratfalls and double takes, and unstoppable slapstick humor, this film never stops entertaining. The laughs come mostly from vehicle accidents of all kinds: car crashes, bike accidents, airplane failures, and almost everything else imaginable. But a good amount of humor is also lent to major wrestling matches, terrible mix-ups and misunderstandings, and increasingly absurd personalities such as Mrs. Marcus (Ethel Merman), the screeching and impossible mother-in-law. The film even laughs at itself, showing its flimsy cardboard sets as characters punch out walls or accidentally explode whole boxes of dynamite. The cast includes such favorites as Jonathan Winters, Phil Silvers, Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, Sid Caesar, Spencer Tracey, Terry-Thomas, and Dick Shawn, among countless others.Brilliantly simple, the plot concerns a caravan of motorists who witness a terrible accident on a dangerously windy California highway. The auto-crash victim (Jimmy Durante) reveals in his dying words that he has hidden a fortune of stolen cash, sending the drivers on a rambunctious race to see who can claim the loot first!

Stunning, brilliant humor that is classic and predictable, yet it keeps me rolling with laughter 34 years after I viewed it for the first time. For the era it was made in, I cannot think of one actor or actress that was alive at the time, that they did not have at least appear in this film. Either as a principle or in a cameo appearance. From Spencer Tracy on down the line to Jimmy Durante & Louis Armstrong. It is a 3+ hour long movie (the VHS version) and there is never, NEVER a lull in the action or the humor. There is not one minute, where I want to leave the TV screen and grab a snack for fear of missing one of the classic hysterical lines, scenes, or moments that of course, I know all of by heart now. Perhaps one of the best testimonies I can offer about this movie is that for the ... A word of caution to Mad, Mad purist though. Several years ago when it became available in DVD, of course I rushed out to purchase a copy for my library. How disappointing when I viewed it and learned that they cut at least 20 minutes of the movie! As I mentioned before, every moment was perfection...and thus, in my opinion, the cadence of the entire movie was destroyed! This is why I purchased the VHS version. I know it is probably considered a dinosaur in today's world of electronics. And I am keeping my fingers crossed that my VHS player never dies, because I'll not in all likelihood be able to repair or replace it. However, my 'home-taped' version of the movie was getting 'loved' to death...I feared it's time was near. For some reason, THANKFULLY, MGM had the wisdom to retain the movies length in it's entirety in it's VHS format. If you have never had the privilege of watching this classic, I highly recommend that you do your funny bone a favor and do so as soon as possible. If you cannot afford to purchase it. At least see if you can check it out at your local library. It should be on everyone's 'bucket list' Enjoy!

Quite Possibly the World's Greatest Comedy Movie
This movie features a great cast and non- stop laughter! My only complaint would be that there are not many other movies this great. I really cannot think of any cons. All of the humor in this movie is slapstick- great for anyone. Once you start laughing, you won't stop until the end of the movie- from where the rich man kicks the bucket (literately) through the banana peel incident in the hospital. This is a great movie for the entire family. I would highly recommend "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" to anyone looking for a good, clean laugh.This movie features a great cast and non- stop laughter! Always loved this movie...a friend borrowed it and never returned it! So...I need another. All the good movie stars are in it and it's a clean movie (NO cursing, derogatory language, etc) Your sides will split laughing out loud..you will love this movie!
