Throw Mama from the Train
Billy Crystal (Larry) is a writer with writer's block. His first and only novel has been ripped off by his ex-wife who released it and took credit for writing it. On top of that it was successful! Now he's teaching a class for would-be writers. One of his students is Owen (Danny DeVito), an annoying little "troll" who desperately wants to be a writer. Owen is very much like a ten-year-old. Owen's mother is an overbearing, harsh, mean, old shrew of a woman who treats him like absolute dirt. In the mean time, Larry is going nuts over his wife who is now famous for "HER" book. His rage has grown to the point that he is thinking of ways to kill her. Owen goes to a movie and sees the movie "Criss-Cross" where he gets the idea to kill Larry's wife if Larry will kill his mother. Larry doesn't pay ... Owen travels to Hawaii where Larry's wife lives. He follows her onto a boat and is going to push her overboard, but she falls over all by herself! Larry hears the news of his ex-wife the next morning. Owen then calls Larry and tells him that his wife is dead and now its his turn, and he must kill his mother. Larry is beside himself worrying that the police will blame it on him. He now is afraid of not killing Owen's mother, for fear of Owen talking. In a total comedy of errors, Larry now feels obligated to kill Owen's mother, but the old bird is so tough and bizarre that eventually everybody is pulling for him to succeed. Suddenly, they are all on a train and Larry is planning to throw her off, but once again, everything goes wrong and Larry winds up going off the train himself. Larry wakes up in the hospital and finds out that his wife isn't dead, but had just fallen overboard. Her rescue takes him off the hook. Months later, with all kinds of ideas, his writer's block is gone, and Larry has finished his new book, "Throw Mama From the Train". Out of nowhere, Owen pays a visit on Larry. Owen tells Larry that his mother is dead; Larry asks if he killed her. Owen says that it was natural causes. He then tells Larry about his new book. . .all about their adventures with momma on the train! Larry is now seething; ripped-off again! But Larry soon finds out that Owen has written a children's pop-up book, and not at all like the one that he has just finished. This was a funny movie, allbeit pretty stupid and slapstick at times. Still funny, - but, if you were to watch it a second time, you would probably not like it as much the second time.
