I consider myself a high end audio user with over 10,000 dollars worth of audio equipment. I have a small listening area in my basement which is set up as my home theater. I hooked this unit up to 5 external amplifier channels, 2 front right, and 3 for center and side surrounds. I am using the receive only to drive the front atmos speakers. Set up was quick and easy particularly with the guided display. The Audyssey calibration did a fine job of setting up my speakers and that was quick and easy. I have three subwoofers. For height atmos speakers I have a pair of of older M&K speakers pointing slight upward toward my 7 foot ceilings. They sit directly above my front and left right speakers. First with respect to film, given 60 inch Sharp TV and the sound of this receiver there is no need for me to go to a movie theater. This setup gives me everything a movie theater could offer. As far as traditional record albums, sacds, and cd, everything sounds so much both when played and with multichannel. They sounded fantastic. stereo. I used to avoid any embellishment to the recordings and played my music as intended, but multichannel stereo did not sound artificial and gave the music a more theatrical appeal. The only strange thing about the Audyssey calibration was that it registred my fronts as small with a crossover at 100 hz. As these are Snell towers with built in subs I found that very strange. But I can't fault the result . Given the current price if you have a smaller listening area, and at least 3 hannels of quality amplifier power there is not another receiver at just about any price I could recommend. Remember this also has a five year warratny. I would also highly recommend buying from Safe and Sound. They have great prices, helpful support, and a wonderful return policy.Read full review

Great sound, reduced a lot of cables with HDMI and HDMI/ARC connections. Had a bit of trouble getting my Sony Bravia and this Denon in keeping the HDMI/ARC functions connected and working. Called both Denon (Great support) and Sony (also very good support). Once ARC functions are working the unit is performing up to my expectations.

My third Denon to date and they while not always the most intuitive products (that has changed a lot), the sound is clean and crisp and a great upgrade to my current home theater amp.. Going to need a lot of speaker to need more than what this one pushes out.. Currently running Klipsch RP-280 system with added mid channels and it is pretty amazing..

the sound is very good. Drives 5.1 speakers wonderfully. I use it as preamp for a 2 channel arcam amplifier for mudic and it works great. Internet radio sounds great. Bluetooth occasionally disconnects.
