Actually, the lens looks rather intimidating at first. The front element seems to kinda jump-out at you. Then there's the heft of the lens. It feels solid. When mounted to my D700, I no longer have a "camera" --- I have a photo-making instrument. Picture quality is quite good. The permanent hood helps control flare as long as you don't include the sun in the image. And the angle of view is amazing. The "lens cap" is curious. With all that glass sticking out of the front, you get a little nervous about accidents. But the "push-on" cap/hood extension that came with the lens is made like a donut with a huge hole that leaves the front element exposed and vulnerable. I bought a metal, screw-on 72mm cap from Adorama and feel much safer now. I bought the AF version. Not that one would really ever use AF with such a wide angle lens, but because the electrical contacts enable all the other benefits of modern photography. The camera sets the f/stop --- knows the focus distance and uses that in its exposure calculations --- and when the images are loaded in Nikon ViewNX2, all of the particulars of the shot are known and displayed. Lastly, looking thru the lens is an experience. It is NOT a fish-eye lens. That distortion is not a worry, but tilt the lens up-or-down slightly and learn the meaning of "keystoning." Keep the lens level and you will have a cinematic experience.Read full review
This is an old and discontinued lens from Sigma, but works fine on my Canon 6D. It is bright (2.8) and sharpness is very good. Auto focus works great, but in live view mode autofocus had issues, not sure why. But at market prices around $450 this lens is a great value.

I am a pro photog and should have done more investigating. very poor quality product. from the focusing to the actual "bones" of the lens. Everything shakes and makes noise - this is not a pro level lens!!!
A great sharp lens, good color though some flaring w/ bright objects in view. I had to purchase a Fotodiox Wonderpana 145 filter holder for my Solar Eclipse Project. Other than that, the lens has served me well doing condo interiors and making great landscapes
