I'm an airplane buff and I love to build plastic models. Recently a new model was released of Sky King's airplane. I just had to buy it. As a child. I vaguely remember watching Sky King on TV. My only recollections about it, however where, "Out of the western sky..." the fact that this guy had an airplane, and that there was some girl in the show named Penny. I had to buy this tape to see again what the show was all about and see the airplane in action. (The only problem is that the airplane in the video is a newer type than the model kit. I wonder if, as the Gecco in the TV commercial says, "We've been dupped!") Anyhow, back to the video- my how television shows have changed since 50 years ago or so!
There are so few movies of days of old that involve private aviation aircraft, that I had to try this one. I remember the radio program and I thought the very early S/K Saturday serial involved a Cessna T-50. I was pleasantly surprised in this one to see the early Cessna 310 B model used and interchanged without continuity the later 310 with tip tanks. Like many serials of this bygone era, the plots were for preteens but the flying made up for this lack. Oh, and there were some great scenes with the D-18 Beech-craft. Nothing like this plane in movies from before Casablanca onward.
While it was what I asked for, it was not in the original case nor were the dvds original. Communications were good but I guess we missed that. I got vintage tv history on dupilicate dvds. Wanted originals for my collection.

Sky King brings us back to a simpler time...no superheroes, no special effects...just good old fashioned Adventure in the Sky. Shows that you can watch even with young kids, without fear of any nasty stuff. Of course, everyone red-blooded boy has to fall in love with Penny...I know I did!

Out of the blue of the western sky, comes Sky King. This dvd is super high quality and really brings back the memories. What I don't get is how did Sky get all the money to take off in his twin engine plane all the time at the drop of a hat? And what about his ranch...that place was so big he flew the fence line in the Songbird just to check it out. Now days, a twin engine piston plane would run you well over a couple of million bucks, so Sky, you must have been growing some kind of crops at that ranch.
