The Psychonauts game for the Sony PlayStation 2 immerses you in a world of action and adventure. Overcome dangerous obstacles and test your reflexes in this quirky platformer. The story of Psychonauts revolves around the character of Raz, a gifted young psychic and the son of a circus performer. The game follows him as he works to become an operative with a highly classified intelligence organization. To complete his studies, Raz must enter the minds of his classmates and help them overcome an assortment of personal issues. This includes diagnosing and treating mental illness and coming to terms with agonizing childhood memories. After entering a subject's mind, players will experience the same emotions and thoughts as the subject during the game. Use Raz's special powers to solve object-oriented puzzles and eradicate potential threats. The subject's brain does not want Raz's help. Instead, it erects barriers and hostile figures to keep Raz from entering the brain's subconscious. Help Raz to complete his mission by using the powers of invisibility, mind control, confusion, telekinesis, and psychic blasts. Psychonauts lets you unleash a barrage of mental energy against hostile brain guardians. As you progress through the game, you can obtain new psychic abilities and upgrade old ones. Each character's mind also contains a figment of the imagination, which can improve your overall psi rank. The player can assign up to three of these psychic powers to buttons on the PS2 controller or choose them individually from the selection screen. The Psychonauts game for the PS2 takes place in Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp, which doubles as a secret training camp for mentally gifted children. Raz, as an outsider, must save the camp's children from the nefarious plans of the demented Dr. Loboto. The game features more than 10 mental worlds in addition to the real world camp level. Each world contains a distinctly trippy aesthetic. One world features a nonstop dance party while another is based around the Battle of Waterloo. Each of the worlds ends with a boss battle that finally resolves the character's emotional problems. Players will have a limited number of attempts to complete the world. Should your health be depleted, Raz will be transported back to the last checkpoint. However, if your astral projection items run out, you are ejected from the subject's subconscious, and you lose all your progress in that world. Psychonauts for the PS2 is the brainchild of designer Tim Schafer. The game is made under the umbrella of his development studio, Double Fine Productions. The game is particularly noted for its sharp and clever dialogue, which was written by Tim Schafer and Erik Wolpaw, a scriptwriter on Portal 2. Featuring a cast of flamboyant and quirky characters and a charming, humorous story, Psychonauts won the BAFTA Games Screenplay Award in 2006. Thanks to its addictive gameplay and utterly unique aesthetic, Psychonauts is an underappreciated classic game for the PlayStation 2. You can also play it on certain backward-compatible models of the PlayStation 3. This PS2 version of the Psychonauts game is rated T for Teen because it features cartoon violence and minor language. This game is also available on Xbox, Xbox 360, PC, and PS4 platforms.

Fun game dealing with dark topics
This is my second time playing this game. I played it when I was little and I still love it to this day. The game tackles complex psychology subjects through humor and fun gameplay. I love all the super powers you get and how each leveled is creative, stylized, and different from the next. This is a fun adventure, best played by teens or above. There is alot of deeper meanings in the psychonauts world about dealing with loss, feeling worthless, being forgotten, being abandoned, and abuse. There are very dark topics but the game keeps the mood funny.This is my second time playing this game. I played it when I was little and I still love it to this day. Psychonauts: very original and only slightly buggy
Psychonauts is a very creative game in terms of its concept. Your play as Raz, a gifted young psychic who had escaped from the circus to become a psychonaut. Raz has to invade other characters psyches to unravel the mystery surrounding the psychonaut's camp. pros: Phychnauts allows the player to visit a variety of unique worlds, these words represents different character's inner psyches. The worlds are very creatively done, my favorite is the twisted "milkman conspiracy' level. The graphics are inventive and the voice work in the game is excellent. Each of the voices matches the character it belongs to perfectly. The dialog is also very witty. The platforming action, while not very original still is fun and engaging. cons: The game suffers from bugs which can make you permanently stuck ... One of these bugs is in the lake area. When Raz gets to control a boat the boat can get stuck on the near-by wooden walkway, a clipping bug. Another bug is in the object levitation training area. If you shoot the 1st object you are forced to levitate it will become un-movable. This will get you stuck permanently, again. The game has few other glitches too. It is amazing that glitches this big made it into the final product even though the game spend many years in development.

Be The Ultimate Psychonaut!
Psychonauts is an odd game - odd in an utterly quirky and bizarre way! You play as Raz, and you have snuck into a psychic summer camp in the hopes of training to be the ultimate Psychonaut. The story follows the tasks you have to perform and the crazy bunch of characters you meet along the way. There are a few games out there that get the PS2 to push out some fabulous graphics. Unfortunately Psychonauts isn't one of them. The graphics are good but could have been better to complement the oddball theme. That being said, the environments that Raz interacts with are very colorful and vibrant. As the gameplay goes, Psychonauts uses a lot of the elements common in 3D platformers these day, so it won't take you long to learn how to swing from bars, perform double-jumps, and grind those rails. ... This can be a little bothersome. There is some replayability once you have completed the game, as you can go back to collect the items that you missed. You will gain a secret bonus for your efforts. The sound in this game is good. I found that the music and the dialogue fitted in quite nicely with the moods and themes throughout the game's environments. Overall, I would give this game 4 out of 5. The concept and story are very original but it is let down by the graphics which I believe is the game's biggest weakness. Despite this, the good storyline, manageable controls, and quirky humor help to make Psychonauts a very enjoyable platformer.

Great trippy style
A unique take on the point and click adventure formula. Requires a but more patience than many platformers due to its puzzle solving elements and some of the mechanics not working properly (very noticeable late in the game). Regardless a game that should be experienced due to its atory, characters and visuals. Buy it digitally on ps4 or xbox for the HD.

Psychonauts is still top-notch.
I love that this game takes you into the human mind. It's so in-depth and beautifully imagined. The graphics are a bit outdated, but this game was made six years ago. The important part is the plot and actual gameplay, and this game has yet to be outdone. I borrowed this game when it came out and had to buy my own copy because even six years later, I still remembered how much fun I had playing this amazing, interesting game. I feel like this game exercises your mind as well as your thumbs, and I'd definitely suggest it to any player, child or adult.
