Boxee was the best of its kind

I have tried them all. Every set-top box that claims to allow you to view YOUR home-based content on your TV from your local devices or network. Boxee was and IS the best and easiest device to do this including (in my opinion) Kodi. It may not have all the bells and whistles of Kodi or even some of its competitors but you just plug it in, point it to your files and let it go. It'll find play nearly anything. For online content, it's pretty limited as it hasn't been supported for quite awhile but for home-based media collections, there is no better.

  • Considering the Boxee Box?

The Boxee Box is an impressive little Media device. I have the WD Live (I put both right next to each other) and still use the WD Live. Why, you may ask? WD has functions that the Boxee Box does not have (yet). The WD has the ability to continuously play media files where the Boxee Box plays one file at a time and you will need to manually select the next file. I heard through the grapevine that the Boxee Box will have a upload to allow this feature, but I'm still waiting for it. What the Boxee Box has that the WD Live does not have is built-in wireless. For my WD Live, I had to purchase a USB wireless from Buffalo which took up one of the USB inputs. And when you do stream videos wirelessly, only the Boxee Box can view 1080p videos. YES, I said it correctly, my friends... Boxee Box ...

  • Great streamer, but you can as well use Laptop+Pc version+iphone app

I bought the Box to be able to play all the movies and series I got in my home server on my TV. I used to have to plug in my laptop to the tv and then to the speakers, and it was a hazle, now its always set up and is fast and easy to use. I haven't tried other streamers, but I am really happy with the product, the remote is nice (though you can't really see the buttons when its dark), it plays almost any kind of file, and has great support for subtitles. The only con I have is that it does freezes up from time to time, but its not too often to be a dealbreaker, plus I think it will be fixed with the upcoming firmware update.

  • I will give it a 7 out of 10 at this time....

Tried the ROKU last fall, awkward interface and laggie streaming even on CAT5.... But the bummer was no PC networking compatibility.... Been watching Boxee reviews past 6 months and decided take the plunge.... Personally I think it is kind of cute in it's own quirky way... The interface is very intuitive for a PC interface (Apple fans will think it crude) BUT the silver lining is that I syncs right up with my PC and my multiple PHOTO, VIDEO, MUSIC hard drives..... FINALLY a network internet access devise... VUDU HD is stunning, as good or better than comcast on demand. Just need Amazon to get onboard... I am using a Boxee app for my XOOM to control Boxee some of the time. The Boxee remote is a bit small for my big paws.... Up and running in less than 10 minutes. Networking ...

  • Great features, but Poor execution. Too many bugs and flaws needs overhaul.

I ordered this unit to mainly watch the movies (avi format and MP4 Mostly) That I have on my the 1 TB storage on my computer, and to have the internet on my main TV. My PS3 can do most of it, but wont play many movies(same for my XBOx). I currently have a WDTV live and is works excellent for playing many formats from my computer server (TVersity), but it does not access the internet and is limited on the other applications it has. After many reviews I read I thought this was going to be the perfect device and it is upon initial use. Once I got into it I found that this device has many bugs. I understand most devices today needs and update or two to get it working on all cylinders but after I did the updates I found many problems. The main one was that this device would just "black out" ...
