Product Information

THQ managed to wrest the WWF license away from Acclaim for no less than ten years (as of 2000). THQ then went to the respected Japanese wrestling game developer Yuke's Co., Ltd, who produces the Toukon Retsuden series, and told them to make a game worthy of The Rock. WWF SmackDown! was the result of this collaboration. <br><br>Based on the prime time UPN WWF television show that made its debut in September of 1999, WWF SmackDown! tries to capture all elements of the typical WWF broadcast. While all the usual mayhem involved within the ring is present, including a Season mode, I Quit matches, Falls Count Anywhere and the like, the game takes a more global approach to the WWF as it also offers a story mode. Now you'll be able to directly experience the backstage drama that is an integral part of a WWF broadcast. You'll develop rivalries, make allies and try to defend your best interests. <br><br>You'll be get the chance to play as over 30 of the top WWF superstars from the year 2000. Your superstar of choice will be able to make a bold entrance thanks to the authentic Titantron footage that plays before the wrestler makes their entrance. The attitude will be thick in the arena after a win thanks to the authentic post-match victory poses and exit themes. You'll also get to create your own wrestlers with the Create a Wrestler Mode, and unlock hidden personalities and wrestlers during extended Season mode play.<br><br>Players will also get a variety of arenas and backstage areas to face off in as they enter the Smackdown Hotel. You'll be able to feel the electricity as you throw your opponent up the ramp and drag his pathetic carcass off to the kitchen, the parking lot, or even the boiler room.<br><br>So know your role and get ready to bow down to the masters. The people's game has arrived, so get ready to "layeth the smacketh down" on the entire WWF roster present in the game. To be in the game, you have to beat the game.

    LAY THE SMACKDOWN!

    -The 1st game in the Smackdown series which later became Smackdown Vs. Raw & WWE 12/13/2k14. -I originally purchased the game in March 2000. -I had played every wrestling game available on the PS1 up to that point & it was the 1st time in a long time that I was blown away by a wrestling game. -Great graphics SFX depth of gameplay for the time (still holds up well IMO) -And the roster is accurate with the WWF Attitude Era cira late 1999. -I would rate the game a solid 4/5 & a must buy if your a collector/diehard wrestling fan like me and own the rest of the games in the series. -P.S. can't wait until this years release of WWE 2k15

    Its cool to have for settlemental reasons, but it doesn't hold up today

    WWF Smackdown! was my go-to game in my early teenage years. The cast of great playable characters is spot-on for the era; with Mankind, Kane, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Undertaker. Also including some lesser knowns like Road Dogg, Debra, Big Boss Man, Al Snow, Steve Blackman + others. The controls are simplistic but brilliant, making the game easy and fun to play. Create your own character first got started with THIS game… before which I can not remember another game having. Its great to create a roster of created characters then have them battle it out with crazy and over-the-top wrestling moves and attacks. Its a great trip down memory lane to dust this game off and give it a spin, though it does feel uneventful and dated when compared to more modern installments of the ...

    an auspicious start to an amazing franchise

    i'd read about this game and wanted it for a long time. then in '01, i picked it up at a local record shop for $9. and my family didn't see me for WEEKS. the variety of gameplay, the create-a-wrestler mode, the season mode... it all made for the wrestling game i'd DREAMED of. first things first: the season mode. i LOVE how your interaction with the other wrestlers can make you allies or foes. winning or losing a match will alter your path through the season, opening up new chances for different alliances and fueds. lots of parts to create wrestlers with, TONS and TONS of moves to choose from, different areas of your wrestlers skill to build up... this game is a classic. one thing i like about all the smackdown games, is that every season mode is different, and has something to like about ...
