I got them to replace the typical over ear "cans" for monitoring my vocals and instruments in my band while rehearsing or recording. The sound quality is excellent but the way the wires are supposed to hook around the ears make me feel like they're always going to come off. The 1st inch or two of lead wire that comes out of the actual transducers is semi rigid and I guess you're supposed to bend it around the back of your ears. I'd feel better if there was some sort of clipping mechanism or just have that wires drape down. I'll probably just use them with my iPhone to listen to music.

When you buy these you must realize some key issues. One size does NOT fit all. I had to change the tips and try several til I found the right fit. Secondly, You have to pay close attention to details. There is a very small colored dot on each piece; Red for right blue for left. You have to mold the ear piece around your ear to hold the unit in place. Seems there could be a better fitting set without paying several hundred dollars for them! I am considering a different set that is molded to fit the ear.

I owned a pair of Etymotic in-ear monitors for years and I'm sold on the concept. IEMs are not earbuds. You actually insert them into the ear canal like the earplugs guys working on the tarmac at the airport wear, sealing your ear canals and blocking out as much as 30dB of outside sound. They're perfect for the gym and yard work, but one channel of my Etys stopped working, so they needed to be replaced. I chose the Shure SE215, because of the physical design -- the cables are Kevlar wrapped and removable/replaceable. The last few inches of cable are also wrapped in something moldable, that allows you to wrap them securely over and behind your ears. Just drop the rest of the cable under your shirt to the iPod in you pocket and you're ready for any activity, with the noise of treadmills and power tools mostly blocked out. This is important. It allows you to listen to music in noisy environments without cranking it up loud enough to drown out the ambient noise, and damage your hearing in the process. The SE215s are very stoutly built, and the least expensive Shures with the above features, so I didn't expect them to be uncompromising in sound. The compromise is that they are a bit bass-heavy. Many (most?) people will consider this a plus. Mids and highs are smooth and detailed, and the lows are not boomy or distorted, they're just a bit loud. The SE215s are not state-of-the-art, but they're very pleasant to listen to, and they're only $99. Recommended.Read full review
I bought these to replace my Etymotics HF-5. The wires had worn out from daily use at the gym. The sound is nowhere near the quality of the Etymotics, but the are acceptable. Getting them to fit with a good seal was a challenge but I ended up with the cords over the ears and the original foam pieces. I chose the SE215s because of the rugged teflon cord so I shouldn't need to replace them as quickly as the HF-5. The cord is stiff and is a bit difficult to work with. Also, there is not clip provided to keep the cord out of the way while exercising. Others had mentioned that these needed a break-in period where the sound quality improves. I was skeptical, but the sound did become warmer and more balanced after several days of use. Pros: Durable Good Sound Cons: Bulky earpieces are difficult to set properly in ear. Stiff cord can be difficult to position.Read full review

If you just need a good set of basic in-ears and don't have the $$ for custom molded monitors, grab a set of these and "on with the show". They could use a little more bass response, but for the price they are very good. You can get a little better frequency response by playing with the EQ in your mix - if you want more frequency seperation and depth then break down and buy something that's way more expensive. Enjoy !

These earphones are typical high quality from Shure. Good sound. I like the fact that the buds can detach from the wire, since the reason I had to buy them is that a permanently attached wire broke on my previous pair of E4's after a few years of use, rendering them useless. My only issue with these is that they are a little bit difficult to get in your ears at first because of the shape. They are probably shaped this way, however, so that they lay more flat in your outer ear once you do get them in - so they are less noticeable.

In 2000 I purchase a set of Shure ear buds which at the time costs close to $300.00. I prefer headphones, but when walking or exercising, headphones just are too hot and ear buds are the only solution. The Shure ear buds from 2000 still work perfectly fine, however my music and audio books are now stored on my mobile phone. If I get a call, I need to have the capacity to answer without dragging the phone out of the bag, disconnecting the earphones, etc and so wanted to purchase a new set of ear buds which had a mic. (Other functions such as advancing to the next track, changing volume, etc. were gravy in terms of basic requirements. The 3 button mic by Shure for IPhone does have those additional features.) I tried several different ones and none of them were very good. I had some less expensive models and what always happened after a few months was the cord would go bad, leaving the earbuds either nonfunctional or functioning with static. It seemed only logical to have the cable detach from the ear buds so that you can replace it when needed. Very few manufacturers provide for cable replacement however and after trying one equally expensive pair which failed to operate correctly and were uncomfortable, I decided to try this set of Shure ear buds. They are fabulous. I have small ear openings but with the fit kit included with purchase I was able to switch ends to ones that fit comfortably. The sound is very, very good. No it is not the quality of sound you get from full size headphones but it is the very good quality when compared to other ear buds. These are not the ear buds professional use when performing on stage, but then they don't cost thousands of dollars either. From my perspective the cord could be a bit shorter but that is my only complaint. I had a hard time getting the ends off to switch to a smaller set, but the buyers suggestion that I put them into the freezer and then switch them worked like a charm. In the age of built in obsolescence Shure builds a product that will last and which can be fixed if a problem with the cable develops. That is a rarity in the headphone market.Read full review
We use Carvin wireless systems in our band and I was using the earbuds that came with the system. After the wire had s run in with s doorknob I needed to replace them. I researched by reading reviews and decided to try the Shures...They are stellar.. I'm the lead singer in a rock band.. Journey, Zep etc ..my voice sounds crystal clear through these monitors. I'm out in front of all the other sounds. Plus the added benefit of reducing ambient sound by a bunch.. Can't go wrong with these at less than $100.00

These are really set apart from normal earbuds. They are tailored to fit in your ear with special cushioning, and around any size ear with moldable wiring. After set correctly, they won't budge! The sound quality is great even for drummers in a plexi-cage. I can hear what I'm doing, but it doesn't drown out my monitor (or vice versa). The earbuds are detachable for individual replacement, which is great. The whole unit seems solid and very well made. No real complaints at all. Great product!

Very good sound quality. It is not NOISE CANCELLING, but it blocks almost all outside noise due to its design. I work on a very loud environment, bu I don't need to have my music too loud. Great on airplanes. Easy to set up, to turn on and off too. Charge lasts about 6 hours.
