Good tool for rifle safety
A simple device for checking headspace primarily in old military rifles. "Field" means a tiny allowance for extra space in the chamber compared to a no-go gauge. If the bolt closes on this gauge it means the chamber is too large or the bolt itself is out of spec. Either way, don't shoot the gun until a smith checks it out. Seems expensive for a little piece of metal, but it has to be precisely machined to work well. Easy to use, and extremely accurate. Using a field gage will save you throwing out a barrel that still has life left in it. Make sure you strip the bolt prior to testing.
