About this product

Product Information

Building on the success of the GBA's acclaimed Advance Wars series, Battalion Wars brings the cartoon combat and sophisticated strategy to GameCube, in real-time. Originally titled "Advance Wars: Under Fire," Kuju Entertainment's take on Intelligent Design's whimsical war-gaming shifts the play to a much more action-oriented perspective.

Instead of a wide, static overview of the battlefield, players take control of a single character, who can issue orders to other soldiers and squads in the heat of the fight. Through a third-person control scheme somewhat reminiscent of the Pikmin games, the player can direct different units and groups toward different objectives, while blasting away at nearby enemies with their controlled character. Players can switch to control any friendly character in view with the press of a button.

The game is set on War World, and is designed to offer the same mix of cute characters and intense warfare that won fans for the handheld Advance Wars games. A number of familiar Commanding Officer characters are present, along with several new personalities -- both friend and foe.

    Pretty Good Game

Being a gamecube release, the graphics and gameplay can look and feel dated but overall the game is still fun.

  • Good game with some key flaws

Love the gameplay, controls take a longer time to get used to than other games considering im coming from a predominantly Halo/Xbox background. Singleplayer is great but multiplayer doesnt even exist. I think this is the game's biggest flaw, multiplayer would be awesome. However other than that it is a solid game. My only other gripes come with the how story is so childish in execution, they seem to forget that this game is about war and the character's interactions make it seem tailored to kids under the age of 10 effectively candy-coating everything, but I thoroughly enjoyed the game at 18. Also the gamecube lacking HD output is disappointing as the game seems VERY fuzzy compared to my Xbox or 360. The fuzziness is most apparent on the menus and menu text but can be seen blatantly ...

  • Battalion Wars

My son wanted a strategy game and we chose Battalion Wars. It sounded interesting and reading other reviews clued us in on some of the game play features. If you're big into Halo or Call of Duty, the realism isn't here. There's a cartoon feel to the graphics, and the story line. The voice actors and plot is good. It is entertaining, and the first levels are instructional for the way the game is played. You can pull up a map, check on opponents and their health. You can lock on and fire, take over airplanes, tanks, different grunts, flamethrowers, etc. The game gets exceedingly harder with almost every level, with the last few levels bare a bit of a struggle to finish. We felt that it was appropriately hard though.

  • Save a dime. Play gamecube on your Wii This game is fun for young people!

I bought this game for my 14 year old son as a Christmas gift. He had the 2nd version (Battalion Wars 2) & wanted to see what the original game was like. New, unused & 7 years old, it was inexpensive. Nintendo produced so few games for gamecube, It's good to have another. The boy likes the game & plays it daily. Since the Nintendo Wii system accepts gamecube games, you can buy & play these "retro" games for cheap! This was a $60 game, that I got still new for $20
