I can still remember the impact all of those Glen Campell songs had on me. He was the right person at the right time to have brought them into the mainstream. Somewhere along the way I discovered there was a songwriter named Jimmy Webb, and to this day he remains one of my favorite songwriters. During the 70's I was living in L.A. playing in a rock group. One afternoon I decided to listen to the Southern Nights LP (Glen Campbell)..and discovered a song of Jimmy Webb's I was unfamiliar with: EARLY MORNING SONG..I played that song a lot after that.(A LOT). Great songs transform us..they change us forever in some etherial way..Jimmy Webb has written a lions share of such songs..this cd captures a wealth of them, and also the raw struggle two mere mortals experienced reuniting all of those factors that created such a wonderful chemistry between these two gifted people..I recently purchased several Jimmy Webb Cds online, and also his book tunesmith..I am looking forward to writing reviews about these purchases..I am honored to do so..being a songwriter myself allows a special insight into how special his songs truely are. the outstanding vocal work of Glen Campbell on these songs is remarkable. People either like, or dislike his voice. he sang all of these songs beautifully, and that was no easy task..I have listened a great deal to this cd, and it continues to grow on me. This is Glen Campbell taking his voice seriously, combined with a collection of masterpieces by Jimmy Webb. I am so glad I for this experience.Read full review
I've always enjoyed Glen Campbells music, and the song writing of Jimmy Webb. So when these two get together you know you're in for a treat. The music they make together is great and can't be beat. I would recommend this cd to everyone.

I bought this CD because some of my favorite songs are: By the time I get to Phoenix, Galveston, Witchita Lineman, Where's the playground Suzy? Unfortunately not one cut on this CD approaches the quality of those songs in either text or melody. I was so looking foreward to listening to this CD, only to be gravely disappointed.
