About this product

Product Information

One of the most influential works of this century, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays is a crucial exposition of existentialist thought. Influenced by works such as Don Juan and the novels of Kafka, these essays begin with a meditation on suicide; the question of living or not living in a universe devoid of order or meaning. With lyric eloquence, Albert Camus brilliantly posits a way out of despair, reaffirming the value of personal existence, and the possibility of life lived with dignity and authenticity.

  • Albert Camus's first statement of his theory of Existentialism.

This book is Albert Camus's first statement of his theory of Existentialism. If you think you want to find out about this topic, this is the book. He presupposes some reasonable background in 20th century (at least) philosophical theory/theorists. No way that it can be rated as "of good value" or not. Rating does not apply. No way that that the content can be rated as "compelling" or not. Rating does not apply. A suitable biography of Camus is probably necessary to read for those without a background in college-level philosophy classes. I'd suggest: Olivier Todd's very readable bio. or (for more detail) Herbert R. Lottman's book. NOT the so-called "illustrated" biography by Finally L'Etranger is essential for an understanding of Camus's thought.
