Following in a long tradition of Hollywood May-December romances, AUTUMN IN NEW YORK is the story of a pair who finds love when each least expects it. Will Keane (Richard Gere) is a successful restaurant owner and bachelor playboy with more "girlfriends" than he knows what to do with but no serious relationships. He meets Charlotte (Winona Ryder), the daughter of an old flame, and is immediately interested in her. The two develop a casual love affair, but Charlotte has a hidden secret: a terminal heart condition. As the unlikely pair continues the relationship, they grow closer than either could have imagined, proving that love is rarely convenient or easy. While struggling with his feelings toward Charlotte, Will also has to deal with a mystery woman (Vera Farmiga) who holds a secret from his past, and his own sense of mortality as he gets older. AUTUMN IN NEW YORK is an old-fashioned melodramatic love story that makes up for its familiar plot with glossy movie-star performances from Gere and Ryder, plus lush cinematography and elegant direction from actress-turned-director Joan Chen, whose touch makes New York City romantic in a unique and understated way.

    A Guilty Pleasure but no extras on this DVD

    I owned the VHS version of this film and am an Richard Gere fan and lover of romantic films. I am in the process of buying all my favorite films which I own on VHS to DVD now which is why I bought this DVD. A guilty pleasure for sure. I think Winona Ryder's voice is very annoying in this film. Her character at times is down right obnoxious. Still I enjoyed this love story. There are no extras on this DVD like a director's commentary or interviews. I think Director Joan Chen was embarassed by the film critic's bad reviews of her film when this came out in theatrical release so she decided not to do a director's commentary. I think this was/ is a mistake. The film is beautifully shot and has a European/Asian look to the film that I find very appealing. I would have loved ...

    Autumn in New York (DVD, 2001)

    A May-December romance. He's 48, on the cover of New York magazine, an upscale restaurateur, and a womanizer who rejects ideas of love. She's 22, living with her grandmother, artistic, facing a tumor that's life-threatening, which she tells him about the morning after their first night, when he tells her not to expect permanence from him. Will finds Charlotte unprecedented and unpredictable, and experiences feelings of love, but she packs him off when he's casually unfaithful. He's stung, and he's also flummoxed by the appearance of a young woman from his past. Can he convince Charlotte to take him back, and can he help her through her illness and change his irresponsible ways?     Wonderful movie with the shakes.

    I was under the impression I was purchasing an original move. Movie I received has several "shaky" parts in it and parts of the movie were stopping, going, stopping, and going. NOT a good copy.

    Nice Love Story

    A very beautiful love story that does not have a happy ending. Richard Gere and Winona Ryder have great chemistry. This is the best movie I have seen in decades. Funny, Romantic, very sad, happy and all together great movie. I highly recommend.
