    Good Surround Receiver

    If you don't need a lot of bells and whistles or 4k, this is a great receiver, especially for not a lot of money (at this point). It does everything you'd expect a 7.1 receiver to do and has plenty of HDMI ports on the back, as well as one on the front for convenience. The on-screen setup is basic, but intuitive. My only complaint is that there's a known issue with the HDMI daughterboard that effects some of these units that has not been addressed. I'm not an electrical engineer, but from what I understand there's something wrong with 5 of the capacitors on the board, which prevents the on-screen setup to work and requires the unit to warm up before the video output will display. It's an annoyance, for sure. On a side note, if your handy with a soldering iron and know how to find YouTube ...

    Great sound, but user interface could be improved

    I bought this receiver to replace a six year old Yamaha that developed a nasty short circuit. The sound quality of the Onkyo TX SR607 is excellent and in fact an improvement despite somewhat lower power than my previous unit. I have two complaints. 1) the on screeen interface only works through the hdmi video. It does not work with component video or analog. I can see no reason for this as a user interface is hardly HD. So user setup is not as simple as it could be. 2) There are not enough outputs for multi-room setups. And it does not have RCA type connections for the multi-room that it does have. I ended up spoofing it to meet my need, but my older receiver was easier to configure.

    Awesome sound for an affordable price

    The operations and functionality of this unit are awesome for its price range. The sound is incredible and it makes watching movies and shows in surround sound an entire new experience compared to the old 5.1 surround. My only complaints are cosmetic. My unit is in an entertainment center on a shelf about knee high and reading the labels on the button requires kneeling to the floor to read them. My unit is black with white small print on the buttons, I would suggest a bolder larger print to make the buttons readable from more than a few inches away. My other complaint is similar, its the buttons on the remote. Again, black background with small white print making it impossible to read with dimmed lights in a theater room. I would suggest a lighted remote with readable buttons.

    Excellent bang for the buck

    I just purchased this unit substituting a previous Denon model. After searching around, I was a little skeptical about the but (Onkyo has really never been an upper tier brand) but so many good reviews for this unit and others from their line meant I had to try it. Firstly sound quality is SPECTACULAR for this price. I am using a 5.1 bookshelf speaker system from Energy and sounds with movies and music are wonderful. True audio separation is noticed with DVD's and music is very well balanced, from electronic to rock and even new age and instrumental. My zone 2 is using a pair of Bose 201 speakers, since they're far away from the sub. I was a little disappointed that there was no "speaker B" for this unit when I initially purchased it, since I really wanted to use this to hear the ...

    Onkyo TX SR607 7.2 channel Receiver

    I've been a long time fan of Onkyo products. I just purchased the TX SR607 to replace an older Onkyo receiver (moved to another room in the house). I couldn't believe the step up in sound quality over my older, yet seemingly impressive receiver. On top of that, I now have ample connectivity w/ the additional HDMI ports and easy setup. I also like the fact that this receiver upconverts all sub-HD quality signals. I can't say enough about this awesome Onkyo receiver!
