About this product

Product Information

An analogy is a comparison between two things. It points out the similarities between two things that might be different in all other respects. Analogies cause us to think analytically about forms, uses, structures, and relationships. First Time Analogies is the ideal launching pad to start nonreaders on the road to real thinking experiences with these pictorial and symbolic analogies that are both challenging and motivating. The book is divided into four sections that let you introduce analogies in a developmental way. The levels are: recognizing relationships; choosing one item to complete the analogy; given two items, choosing two other items that have the same relationships; and pairing up four items to complete two related pairs. Exercises are presented on worksheets that require circling the correct answer, as well as cutting out pictures and pasting them in the correct spaces. Attractive illustrations will draw students into the engaging exercises. While they think they are just solving fun puzzles, they will be doing serious thinking and building a basis for future experiences in critical thinking.

A pleasant overall experience! They had a rather hard-to-find book on Persian calligraphy for a good price and free shipping. The status said shipped before any tracking was uploaded so I messaged them the next day to ask them to provide a tracking number. They never responded, but tracking was added to my eBay details that night. It took about five days to get here to Los Angeles from LaVergne, Tennessee and came in a strong, secure envelope. The book was in good condition and as described.

I bought this to prepare my 5-year-old son for kindergarten testing. It met our most important criteria: he enjoys doing the exercises and is enthusiastic and proud of his work, which is a first for him with written work. He actually thinks it's fun! This seems to be a nice, simple approach to developing some complex thought processes in young children. The book is divided into several progressive sections, beginning with circling 1 of 4 items that doesn't belong, then 2 of 4 that are related, then 2 that share the same relationship as an example pair. They teach the child to identify and extend many different types of relationships--categories, opposites, sequences, instrument/object, simple spatial relationships, etc. The pictures are clear and simple for the most part. The level is ...
