Great but not easy. There are better products out there for beginner
First the bad: these are almost useless if you don't purchase the dvr adapter and the plug ins that allow you to record tv and play movies. Recording tv is impossible without a digital tv converter box or analog out jacks. That said, I love these and I have more than one and will buy more used ones that have the plugins already. Best product of 2007 generation. I can record from tv and take it to watch at work during lunch time. It is playback connectable to tv and the picture is dvd quality in that configuration. I can preload several movies to watch on an airplane or so I don't need to rent dvds on vacation. The best reason(s) to get this portable DVR Video Player/Recorder is the incredible price....$199.99, the Fantastic screen quality, and the user friendly touch screen /interface. Sandisk was all set to ship their similar featured Sansa View product for $399.99 but wisely decided to kill that product with the imminent introduction of the Archos 605 4GB Flash Unit. I bought this player because I have been very happy with previously purchased and used Archos PVR Portable Player recorders and the fact that i wanted an extra thin player with great battery life. Since this player does not have a hard disk and uses SDHC SD cards and internal Ram (4GB) the battery life is much better than the models with a spinning hard drive. I am averaging 5.5 to 6 hours of battery life with my 605 4GB. I just ... This Device has been probably the worst purchase I've ever made. Not only is this a waste of money but a simply just a waste of a company and resources. To me, this Archos first was good and decent product. It was probably better than the ipod touch for the moment. Soon, the ipod touch supremed over the archos 605 wifi, with its introduction of the app store, gps & maps, and many others. The 605 in the other hand stayed the same, nothing new just music, video, and browser. Overall there both somewhat good devices, when put in perspective. The 605 had a lot of bugs and cliches that weren't fixed by archos and i had to return mines for a repair, once i had it back BAM!! big surprised what happened? it got bugged again. I just threw it against the wall for is failure and stupidy i had to go ... This Device has been probably the worst purchase I've ever made. One thing you can say about Archos; they have designed the Archos 605 with a lot of different buying options. While this keeps the price down, you may find that you'll need plug-ins to get your desired effect. With that being said, the Archos 605 4gb Wifi may be just what you're looking for. With its much-lower cost, it's a price effective option if you're not willing to pay much more for 30, 80 or 160 gb. With the added option of an SD slot, you can plug and play to your hearts content.One thing you can say about Archos; they have designed the Archos 605 with a lot of different buying options. I brought this Archos 605 (4 GB) Digital Media Player a week ago. When plug Archos 605 to the computer it work excellented. Media player works excellent. Only need to purchase a software to play DVD movie, if you didn't use the Windows Media Player. When using the SD MEMORY CARD you need to use the software to play DVD Movie. The play back picture was excellent. I recommend the Archos 605 (4 GB) Digital Media Player if you're on budget.I brought this Archos 605 (4 GB) Digital Media Player a week ago.
