About this product

Product Information

Blake Edwards's updating of the farcical GOODBYE CHARLIE stars Ellen Barkin as Steve/Amanda Brooks, a man trapped in a woman's body. After three of his former girlfriends, led by Margot Bronfman (JoBeth Williams), join forces to murder womanizing male chauvinist Steve Brooks (Perry King), God refuses to admit him to heaven until he can find a woman who loves him unconditionally. For Satan's amusement, God returns Steve to earth in the form of a beautiful woman. After she gets over the shock of having the body of a woman, Amanda blackmails Steve's boss to get his/her job back and persuades Margot to give her some lessons in acting like a woman. With some effort Amanda manages to convince Steve's best friend, Walter Stone (Jimmy Smits), that Steve is now a woman. She even finds that being a woman is useful at work, helping her land the multimillion-dollar advertising account of gay executive Sheila Faxton (Lorraine Bracco), who's looking for more than just a business relationship. Funny and charming, SWITCH features a highly inventive comic turn by the gifted Barkin.

Don't switch the channel -- Barkin at her best

I don't care what the reviews of the time said, this funny little flick was worth every minute because of Ellen Barkin's wicked sense of masculine energy. And Jimmy Smits was at the height of his sexiness. I only wish Ellen's shoes could have gotten proper credits, still hot to this day, those lime suede numbers, too hot. A host of fantastic actors support the story, you'll recognize many of them.

  • Cute and intriguing!

This was a very funny movie. When a man mistreats women, he comes back as one. In the movie "Switch", it makes all sense. What a way to go. In the Bible, adulterers and fornicators have their part in the lake of fire. However, he does get a second chance at life. Not as Steve, but as Amanda. Ellen Barkin was wonderful as the man in a woman's body. She gives a fantastic performance as Amanda. Ms. Barkin plays Amanda with style, yet, she makes us see how this woman reacts to the new situation in her own way. The ending was a real tear jerker. A very good movie, and got some biblical sense in it as well

  • Very enjoyable, recommend purchase

I saw this movie many years ago and found Miss Barkin's performance & interpretation of a man turned woman hilarious and delicious. J. Smiths did not quite have a big enough role here to 'spread his wings' and show his full potential, but was pleasing and believable. The script moved in a tempo, that allowed the actors to 'be' their' role, but for the contents not to be dragged out and boring or over-told. One of the movies, I will keep in my collection and watch again.

  • Still a Favorite!

I love this movie, best romance movie ever! Funny and Erin Barkin is fabulous in her role!
