I just discovered that the seller refunded only half the money. He claims that I broke the thermostats. From my POV, they did not work from the start. Since then, I bought two brand-new thermostats, installed them, and they are working fine. That indicates that (1) my HVAC system works with Nest thermostats, and (2) I have the requisite skills to install them.
This entire transaction seems sketchy. I'm not happy about the partial refund.
