Reviews
The dearth of theological reflection among Christian development agencies has been highlighted by many. In this book, one practitioner bravely takes her own organisation to task for its lack of theological engagement and coherence. Loy adopts an ethnographic approach to interrogate the explicit, implicit and null theologies of Christian Aid. In the process, she ably identifies the inadequacies and tensions within their current paradigm. Given her personal experience as head of Christian Aid week, Loy is ably placed to do this and so steers us through the internal machinations of an organisation she clearly knows well. She therefore provides us with a fascinating, compelling and insightful account of how one particular agency seeks (rather unsuccessfully in her mind) to articulate and enact its theological values. This book will prove to be extremely valuable to anyone interested in debates around theology and development, and to those concerned with developing or maintaining an organisational spirituality, especially among Christian development agencies.

Synopsis
The intersection of religion and development has for some decades been considered contentious, with scholars of both disciplines inhibited by the constraints of either the religious or the secular paradigm they primarily inhabit. Development Beyond the Secular aims to provide a new resource for those interested in the study of religions and development (primarily postgraduate and academic), and for those development practitioners wishing to contextualize their discipline within a religious frame. Using the work of Christian Aid as its primary lens, this book examines and critiques the theological underpinnings of development work and questions how Christian values are manifest through day-to-day work in the world of poverty eradication. Great collection! Great price! This item arrived in good time and as described. I lived in the UK when The Shadows were really popular and having this collection brings back nice memories. I would order from this vendor again.

Very happy with the transaction. The items came promptly, well-packed and in good condition. Considering that I received four notebooks, the total price was very reasonable. Thanks.
