Nous avions dit adieu Stamboul, et le dernier promontoire du Bosphore nous avait cach les pointes les plus lev es des minarets de la ville des sultans. Notre b timent se dirigeait vers Tr bisonde. Une fois d barqu s sur le territoire de l'ancienne Arm nie, nous devions traverser, pour gagner la Perse, quelques-unes des provinces les moins connues de l'empire ottoman. On comprend quelle fut notre joie quand, apr s une navigation des plus p nibles, nous p mes enfin toucher terre. Il tait ais de pr voir cependant qu'aux temp tes de la mer Noire allaient succ der pour nous des p rils et des fatigues non moins redoutables dans les solitudes glac es qui s' tendent entre le pachalik de Tr bisonde et la fronti re persane. Quand nous d barqu mes Tr bisonde dans les premiers jours de d cembre, le ciel tait noir et tout charg de neige. Les pr paratifs du long voyage que nous allions entreprendre, en d pit des rigueurs de la saison, furent bient t termin s. Le 15 d cembre, deux cents mulets ou chevaux, les uns portant des bagages, les autres des cavaliers, n'attendaient plus pour se mettre en mouvement que le signal du d part ce signal fut enfin donn , et nous quitt mes Tr bisonde, apr s avoir appel sur nous, par une collecte faite au profit des pauvres catholiques, la protection de la Providence...
