Die Paginierung obiger Ausgabe wird in dieser Neuausgabe als Marginalie zeilengenau mitgef hrt. Umschlaggestaltung von Thomas Schultz-Overhage unter Verwendung des Bildes: Vincent van Gogh, Feld mit Raben, 1890. Gesetzt aus der Minion Pro, 11 pt. ber den Autor: 1831 in Eschershausen im Weserland als Sohn eines Juristen geboren, bricht Wilhelm Raabe die Schule erfolglos ab, beginnt eine ebenfalls bald wieder aufgegebene Buchh ndlerlehre und widmet sich umfangreicher Romanlekt re. 1854 beginnt er die Arbeit an dem Roman Die Chronik der Sperlingsgasse, die er 1856 unter dem Pseudonym Jakob Corvinus ver ffentlicht. Ab 1857 erscheinen seine historischen Erz hlungen in Westermanns Monatsheften. Nach zahlreichen ausgedehnten Reisen durch Deutschland bersiedelt Raabe nach Stuttgart und tritt u.a. dem Deutschen Nationalverein und dem Gro en Klub bei. 1866 ist er an der Gr ndung der liberalen Deutschen Partei beteiligt. 1897 erscheint eine erste Monographie ber Raabe und zu seinem 70. Geburtstag 1901 erh lt der inzwischen verehrte Dichter mehrere hundert Gl ckwunschschreiben. Mit den Ehrendoktorw rden der Universit ten G ttingen, T bingen und Berlin und dem K niglich Preu ischen Kronenorden ausgezeichnet, erkrankt Wilhelm Raabe 1909 schwer und stirbt 1910 als Ehrenmitglied der Deutschen Schiller-Stiftung in Braunschweig. Wilhelm Raabe ist neben Theodor Fontane einer der gro en Vertreter des poetischen Realismus. Seine plastischen Darstellungen realistischer Bildlichkeit sind mit seiner Sympathie f r Au enseiter humoristisch stimmungsvoll.
