    Real CVA part.

    A bit of design tweak would improve this product. Are you listening, CVA? Converting a Stag Horn from No. 11 caps to 209 caps is a logical move, but CVA has a kit for that that includes a new bolt, spring, and breech plug. This should be possible with a breech plug only, but the breech plug buries the position for the 209 primer deeper than it has to. As a result, the shroud around the bolt (hammer) prevents activation of the primer unless the other parts are also ordered. A slight modification in the primer seating area fixes that. A Dremel tool and one minute took care of it without destroying the shroud around the hammer...safety is not impaired in any way.

    Replacing a compromised Breech Plug.

    For those of you who use smoke poles I HIGHLY recommend having an extra breech plug on hand. I returned from my last hunt and decided to do a thorough cleaning on my smoke stick. (I highly recommend the practice of performing a pre and post expedition check of all components.) In doing so, I found that the cradle where the 209 primer fits onto the plug was faulty. Had I fired the muzzleloader, it is possible that the fragment could have become a projectile in the open breech. In a word: dangerous. Of course, all smoke stick hunting was halted until the compromise could be resolved. Having a backup, would have put me back in the woods literally within a few hours. So I ordered one and now realize I probably should have ordered two as now I have no backup.

    IT fit my rifle perfectly, it is easy to put in and take out . It is a lot better than the original number 11 cap type. No more misfires! Thanks guys.

    never been cleaned breach plug.

    the old one was trashed. the new one fit perfectly the old one was damaged by the previous owner of the rifle because he did not use anti seize when the plug was cleaned and installed. Actually I do not believe the breach plug had ever been cleaned since the rifle was new. now everything is good again, clean and just like new.
