      Pistons for Land Rover 300TDi

      I bought a Discovery 300 TDi that turned out to be as sick as a parrot. Someone had fitted a new timing belt incorrectly and the valves had been hitting the pistons. The pistons had "volcanoes" on them and one had a crack in its crown. New pistons were desired and pattern-parts were all that could be afforded. After ridge-reaming (to get the old pistons out) and honing with a three-stone-hone the engine ran beautifully. Bude to Peterhead and return via London used no water and about half a cupful of engine oil. Quite a lot more parts were also fitted such as new head, new radiator, new timing belt kit. Over 30 mpg could be achieved when towing! The only downside to the project was that somebody stole it! Unfortunately thieving and piracy have been a way of life for centuries in ...
