Umbra wobble threads a very fine needle.
Most chess sets fall into a spectrum from the boring to the baroque. I have been searching for a long time for a high quality wooden set that matches the aesthetic of my eclectic modern home. The Umbra wobble was a great find for me. The board is well finished with no mismatched edges or rough seams. The pieces are well-weighted, simple without being austere, and easy to distinguish (some modern sets fail on this, with pieces that are too similar making them pretty to look at but a pain to play). Very pretty, but pieces lean an make it look messy
I was so in love with the looks of this set, I wanted to be able to have the chess set out so kids would play more and it is pretty. However they don't stand straight up, so they look like they are all leaning all over the place. That is to me really distracting with such a beautiful set.
