Batteries are weak, must be old stock. They lose charge quicker that the batteries I was replacing. NO WAY these rate for the amp hours they were sold as. Voltage at rest looks good at 18.83 VDC. Hard to find for those older Ryobi 18 v tools.
I need to replace the batteries (I always get a pair so that for those long jobs, one can be charging while the other is in use) about every 3rd year. (Last ones were purchased in 2019 and this pair in 2022) Long lasting power and usually only stop being usable because of cells going bad through extensive use. Use and recharge is how I use them, even though it might be more efficient for battery life to run them down completely before recharging. I am willing to trade the ability to NOT run out of power in the middle of a job for a little shorter life. These older tools work forever if properly cleaned and stored between uses. I haven't tried the newer "higher capacity" batteries to see if they will even work in my older equipment, but they do require a different charger than the one I have. Blue Ryobi is still functional
Blue Ryobi tools of yore, about two decades ago, used lackluster ni-cad batteries. New third-party lithium cells add life to abandoned last-decade or previous-century power tools. I was able to trim several trees using 3.6 amp, 18 vdc lithium batteries with an old blue Ryobi chainsaw from a flea market.
