The top is made of a thin, tee-shirt like material that is fairly see-through except for the area where the it is doubled for the shelf bra. Stitching is straight. Mine fits just below the waist when pulled down but rides up constantly. It's lightweight and OK for casual wear or layering for a season or two but I don't think it will hold up over time. I'm happy with the purchase over all but it's good to know what to expect.
