Good, if you like a challenge
OK, this game is frustrating. So much so that, about 20 years ago, I sold the copy I had. However, nostalgia has been biting me again lately, so I bought it again. This game is very challenging and requires quick reflexes and a lot of patience. I had neither in my youth, but I enjoy a good challenge much more than I did back then. The Game Boy Color make this game much better, as the colors make things easier to distinguish than the old puke green and black graphics of the original Game Boy. Flying through space dodging asteroids, big chunks of amoeba parts and enemy ships (and torpedoes) will test you. This game is very unforgiving. You can transfer more power to your shields (pause screen) but that will make your engines and phasers weaker. Or, you can boost power to your engines hoping to make it through faster. So, there is a bit of strategy involved in this arcade style game. The away missions are also difficult, but still fun.
There was one thing I regretted after I sold my original copy, and that was not keeping it long enough to see how it was on a Super Game Boy adapter for the SNES, which I bought after I sold this game. Well, I'm glad I didn't buy this again just for that. This game freezes on the Super Game Boy. I was using it on a clone console, so I thought there was an outside chance that was the issue. But, when I pulled my actual SNES out of the closet and tried the game with that, it still froze. I don't know why, but it's not the game's fault. It was released two years before the Super Game Boy. But, the game works great on the Game Boy Color, so I'm not too sad about it.
