Gamers get a glimpse into the origin of Lara Croft as she struggles to survive on an isolated tropical island in Crystal Dynamics' reboot of Tomb Raider. The game finds the recently graduated Croft joining her treasure-hunting mentor Conrad Roth on an expedition into the Pacific Ocean's dangerous Dragon's Triangle. But a powerful storm splits their ship in half, and when the survivors wash onto shore they are greeted by dangerous terrain, fierce wildlife, and fortune-seeking scavengers. As always, players must use a combination of exploration skills and combat to escape alive.<br><br>The Lara of this Tomb Raider isn't the steely heroine from previous games, but a frightened and injured young woman who is very reluctant to kill people, but slowly builds her resolve in order to rescue her captured friends. To reach that end, gamers can make use of a variety of upgradeable weapons and tools, including torches, a bow, an ax, and a host of guns. The action mostly takes place in open, multi-path locations, with players using newly acquired tools to access loot and treasure maps in previously unavailable areas. The open layout also lends itself to multiplayer action, which pits groups of survivors against groups of scavengers in a variety of modes across five trap-filled maps.<br><br>In the "Definitive Edition" the developers have added numerious technical upgrades to take full advantage of the PlayStation 4 hardware. A new character model was created, the PC's TRESS FX hair simulating technology is included, and shader, lighting, and textures have all been improved upon. On the game disc users will find a digital version of the Dark Horse Tomb Raider comic book, a mini-art book from Brady Games, the "Final Hours" developer videos, and all of the downloadable content previously released for last generation consoles.

    Tomb Raider, Reboot Review

    While the game and story are great. Lara new design is amazing and her character is filled with emotion. However gameplay is very simple and stealth leaves some to be desired. Overall it is well worth a play though and should definitely be in any gamer’s collection.

    LOTS of explicit gore – and a surprisingly whiny Lara Croft

    To be candid, I was disappointed with this game. Sure the graphic "quality" is good (technically), and the platforming experience is what I expected, but there were two things that stood out for me that made me less than enthusiastic about this game: 1) I'm not a prude (my favorite game is Skyrim), but the gore in this game was over-the-top for me. Having Lara Croft drop into a room filled with bloody body parts, with skinned victims also hanging from the rafters, was unnecessarily gory. Later, Croft takes a tumble and, if handled improperly, she gets a long pipe shoved up and through the bottom of her mouth. Too gruesome for me. No thanks. 2) I know in this game she is supposed to be a younger, less experienced, Lara Croft, but right from the start she sounds totally whiny. She whimpers ...

    This game puts you in apparel as soon as you get there. It has mind blowing puzzles to match it's graphics. This is a challenging game and not for the weak of heart. You will be tested. The weak will not survive....

    Engaging game

    It's super fun, there's a ton of missions to keep you entertained for a long time, the story is compelling and gameplay is amazing. It's quite different from previous Lara Croft games in terms of the story. Lara is not the confident pro we've come to know and expect. Here she takes her tentative first steps, but she is driven and as she complete missions, she becomes the force we know. Great title.
