Product Information
David Macaulay's PBS specials (PYRAMID, CATHEDRAL) utilize an unusual combination of animation and travelogue documentary to take viewers to a different time or place. With this project based on his book MILL, Macaulay and his crew create an animated world based on Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where the first textile mill was located. Meanwhile, the documentary crew take their cameras through Manchester, England and Lowell, Massachusetts looking at the textile industry and how it has evolved since being a major part of the Industrial Revolution. The working conditions of modern mills are also discussed focusing on a Scottish woman who leads her coworkers on a strike demanding a safer work place.
