This is probably the best bang for your buck as far as modern Fallout games go. However, you will be missing a ton of added content if you don't go for the game of the ear or complete editions of the game- things that make the game much friendlier for new players, and allow for a better experience in a wasteland world that's very scarce on resources. That makes this normal version of the game significantly more challeging to play.

Fallout 3 is a classic title in the fallout franchise but playing this gem on ps3 is a bittersweet adventure, the game looks and plays fine but you can't play for more than an hour at a time without it freezing your console.

Fallout 3 is perhaps one of the best rpg games out there on PS3. It's gameplay style is similar to Elder Scrolls: OBlivion, with its open-world gameplay, its many quests, and its interesting quest plots. Fallout 3 exhibits a different leveling system compared to Oblivion. Levels are earned by gaining experience points, which can be obtained through completing quests, killing enemies, picking locks, hacking computer terminals, etc, as opposed to the leveling in Oblivion that is driven by leveling up major skills. Characters in Fallout 3 are determined by the distribution of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. S = Strength P = Perception E = Endurance C = Charisma I = Intelligence A = Agility L = Luck Each of these stats governs a set of skills, ranging from Lockpicking, Computer Hacking, Medicine, Energy Weapons, Big Guns, Sneak to Small Guns, Barter, etc. Fallout 3 offers a unique combat system called V.A.T.S. which basically functions like an auto-target system with varying percentages for specific body parts, such as the head, legs, or torso. The VATS combat system is fun at first, but may seem some what repetitive as the game progresses. The lack of variety of enemies and creatures in the game is a little bit disappointing, but the game is nevertheless worth playing. The different locations and landscape and quests available to the player certainly makes up for the lack of monster/creature variety. Fallout 3 is a definite must play, and its downloadable content that will be coming to the PS3 makes it even more so. Rating: 8.5/10 *All of the above is my personal opinion.Read full review
I like the games RPG atmosphere and the fact that you can do anything you want (to a degree)when compared to first person shooters. VATS shooting mode is unique and slows things down so you can target individual parts of the victim with incredible cinematics that are both graphic and dramatic, fun compared to other shoot-em-ups but honestly not as satisfying as say COD:MW2. I found targeting erratic in regular shooting mode with a "too" small pipper. I like the kooky post nuclear war world and the rummaging aspect of things. I like the ability to gather some things without weight detriment. I like odd stuff that happens seemingly for no reason. I don't like raiders (so far) apparently you can't reason with them although some cower and run away. I like the pip-boy device and radio, gives it a cool feel. I don't like nightime too much as it is pretty dark (no kidding! gosh why would that be) but seriously just a little hard to get use to. I gave this a good because there are some glitchy parts. Overall real fun but not action packed which is exactly as a RPG should be. I call this a less addictive WOW alternative for one. Only played a few hours but it definitely draws you in and makes you think a little. Karma thing is cool. Recommended but only for older players and thinkers, probably lame for young kids and ADD, hyperactive types.Read full review
I really enjoy playing this. I played it on the xbox 360 and I think they are about the same. I had a few issues while playing this though. It would make my TV reset for no reason. I am unsure if it is the game or the TV but it only happens while playing this game. The openess of this game is great. You start out and once you grow up you can go and pretty much kill anybody and do anything you want. You are free to go wherever you want. There are a few issues I have though. 1. Leveling up does not make it easier to kill enemies, they level up with you which means if you know what you are doing you can go anywhere and kill anything. 2. The TV thing but like I said I am unable to recreate this in any other game so I am not holding it against this game. I really do enjoy playing this and it has a good story. You cannot beat the openess of it. I was a huge fan of Morrowind and this comes close but it still is not as good as far as progression of your character. However, I prefer this game over Oblivion. I recommend this game if you want something you can sink quite a few hours in and hopefully some Downloadable content will be released that will remove the cap at the end of the game. If you have the choice between the xbox 360 and ps3. I would go with the xbox version for the downloadable content. But, this is still a good buy for the ps3.Read full review
