This mat cutter does everything the light user needs. It cuts precisely, leaves an even bevel and sharp corners, and is easy to set up. The only additional item a user might want is a straight cutter (such as Logan 701) for cutting the mats to size. For the occasional user a good square or T-square and a sharp hobby knife or razor knife are just as accurate, but not as fast or convenient.

i expected to be able cut mats of various sizes, but quickly discovered the maximum cut was only 4 1/4". i wanted to mat four postcards in an 11 x 14 frame, and i couldn't make the inside cuts that needed to be 4 3/4" from the edge.

Makes a good "travel" mat cutter while we RV this summer. I miss the squaring arm, but consessions must be made when space and weight are major considerations. To be fair I'm using the cutters from my big mat cutter. The smaller cutting throat still works for standard size mat board if your cuts are 32" or less--use the short side. The smaller footprint works on picnic tables and small trailer tables.

Have not had the chance to use this mat cutter yet, but it is of excellent quality and a lot of people I know who do their own framing and matting swear by theirs. I have also ordered a glass/plexi cutter by Logan, and am sure I will be well satisfied by that product also.
