Works perfect, it's on 3.15 firmware, the disc drive works, the controllers work, everything works. It's backward compatible with PS2 and PS1. There's no dust inside of it. It still works on the PSN network. The fans do start to speed up slightly after not long of being turned on (I'm not sure but I think this may be normal for FAT models). But one thing that worried me is a slight zap sound I heard after turning off the switch at the back. I also experienced a mild tingling sensation from touching the on/off part. I'm not sure if this was due to static electricity or what but it hasnt happened since and I now use the controller to turn it on and off. I also purchased a USB fan, and laptop cooling pad which I also use to keep it cool. Great product and good price.

The PS3 is in good physical shape, but doesn't work all the time. It freezes up during a game or the screen goes black after 10-15 mins and I have to power cycle it to get it to work again. I don't hear the fan getting loud, so doubt it's a heating issue. I'm taking it to a repair shop this week to have it looked at and hopefully fixed so it will be a stable system capable of playing games again.

the PS3 80G model #CECHE01 is the perfect solution for anyone who wants a PS3 console, but also wants backwards compatibility with PS2 & PS1 games. the secret is do not let your unit overheat, and the way to ensure that is operate it in a normal environment (house temperature, not outside temperature), and the best way to ensure that is keep it clean, do NOT lets dust accumulate (i feather dust my console once/week and keep it covered with a small towel). this is the best overall console i've ever owned, understood the newer consoles are much richer, but this beast delivers amazing graphics, has all the features and game play a person needs, and the backwards compatibility is a HUGE add for anyone who wants to leverage the value locked up in their library of PS1 & PS2 games.

Original released PlayStation 3 console. Working in great condition. Compatible with the entire family of PlayStation One and PS2 games. Firmware at 3.55 for modders to tweak with (I am thinking of getting someone do this for me). And, all for under $300. Nothing is a better deal than this. The Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 can't even dream of such a huge game library. And online is still supported, and FREE, of all things. The PS3's XMB is one of the cleanest and easiest to use UI in any console. The only thing going against this console is the original's hard drive space, at a paltry 60GB. Nothing much there, but easy to upgrade; just get a 2.5" 500GB SSD, format it to FAT32 for the PS3 to recognize, install, and go. Another gripe that is against all PlayStation 3 consoles, is the atrocious update process. Every game, has to first download, and then install updates, one at a time. Especially infuriating when there are huge 4+GB of updates and the connection to the network drops for any random reason. If anyone wants a PS3, they can definitely get it at half or even a third of the price, no problem. However, I feel that this release model PS3 is the perfect one for gamers with a huge library of PlayStation games of the past, and little shelf space for multiple consoles.Read full review

This is the one PS3 you want if you care about backwards compatibility, Europe never got it, Japan never got it. Only the Launch PS3s and the MGS4 bundle have the model number CECH-A01. Feel free to google some of the later revisions with Emotion Engine (the gpu in the PS2) emulation and the difference is clear. Some PS2 games were not tested using method and if you're a collector of the platform then it's bound to rear its ugly head at some point. Games also load slightly faster on the platform and the since the PS3 uses modern 2.5' HDDs, you can even put modern storage like SSDs in this thing to increase performance (granted it uses SATA2 so you'll never achieve the full speed of the drive but it's a noticeable bumb) there is also a smoothing function built into the PS3 which like anti-aliasing and smooths out edges better than $300 upscale devices like the Framemeister! 480p games look great and hold up surprisingly well and even 240p content like the original Silent Hill on PS1 look good and don't have any of the audio glitches that the later emulation consoles are prone to (this also applies to the digital downloads on the PS store) TLDR this things are becoming more rare for a reason, they may not have the longest life span, but treat it well and it will treat you well. This thing can play games from 1994-2018. There will never be a console like the Launch PS3 ever again.Read full review
