The Sigma EX DN is a lightweight lens that yields high-quality images with little effort. The lens weighs a mere 4.8 oz. This lens is very user-friendly. It has sharp focus even when it is used wide open. There is a slight corner softness with the 30 mm lens, which many photographers appreciate in portrait photography. The Sigma lens has little distortion on images, and there isn't much light falloff. A feature many photographers will appreciate in the Sigma EX DN for Sony cameras is its quiet and quick autofocus. The motor on this 30 mm lens seems soundless and takes slightly under one second to focus. It does this without rotating the front end. This lack-of-distraction is ideal for picture-taking during concerts and ceremonies. The designers of the Sigma EX DN kept the photographers in mind during lens creation. Lightweight, Easy to use, street lens
I use it with a Nex-5n. At first I wasn't convinced it was as good as my manual vintage lens. It isn't the same thing. Reason? It's more for a Mirrorless with an EVF, no focus ring. I personally love the feel of manual so it took some getting used to without the physical ring. Using the focus system on it became easy and I've sniped people from the hip while having the EVF tilted. It's a great, lightweight, walk-around lens. Just wide enough to capture the mood, but personal enough to get a feel for a subject. It gets good bokeh while focused close, and sharp enough for my needs when I want to capture a scene. It's versatility is quite wonderful. There are some down sides... It's a little less like a 28mm, but it does give a better feel. Sharp at the center, but my copy seems to have some ... Also, the one I received had a clicky sound when I focused, which takes away from the shot and if it isn't noisy, will draw attention. It's a solid 4 in my book :)

Great everyday travel lens
Great for everyday use. Not too wide. Not any noticeable distortion other than getting too close for headshots. Good for full body and portrait shots. I would use a longer focal length for headshots or makeup shots. Perfect lens. exactly what I was looking for since 50mm is hard to use in tight spaces. This gives me a lot more room.

If you have bought the Sony Nex 7 for street photography you already know the standard 18-55 kit lens is mediocre and are looking for a reasonably priced prime lens that produces higher quality images and is less obtrusive. The Sigma 30mm fits the bill. It also handles the automatic functions of the camera like the standard kit. It is the best lens for SONY NEX Cameras
If you own any Sony NEX camera, just go get this lens. It is the super bargain of the year. The lens is Super light, compact and easy to carry. The image quality is eye popping! very sharp from f2.8 to f22, Perfect for street photos. This lens is 10 times better than my SONY 16mm f2.8.
