Had to perform that step carefully in order not to break anything. Example: The paper receiving tray (plus its cover when the printer is shut down) that collects the printed pages. I often print several pages at a time thus don't want to find them on the floor.Vendor did NOT share by text or with pictures that several parts to this printer were missing. Likes- Scanning is easy, and good quality. From Photoshop you can let the scanner crop, identify the type image (b/W, color, document) and scan with one button. The quality is nice, just keep the platen clean. I like the built in card reader, it makes one less computer connection. Printing is great, sometimes it feeds 2 sheets of paper, but image quality is great. I have tried to substitute inks but found that they do not compare in quality of image to the expensive Epson inks. The printer will not print with a cartridge that is too low. Dislike- Expensive cartridges for the quantity of prints. CD printing tray is kind of bad, the lever to raise the carriage to the higher level requires some pressure. Software for printing on cd's is way off center, it requires a lot of adjusting to get ... Likes- Scanning is easy, and good quality. This is overall a real nice printer, I would buy it again but models change so often that it will probably be obsolete by then.

Best I've Ever Owned!
The Epson RX580 is the best for photo quality printing. I especially like that it can do just about anything. Copier, Photo print, Crop, Scan, make CD/DVD labels directly onto the printable CD/DVD's and has slots for memory cards. It has a nice viewing screen for pictures. It is just plain exceptional for anything you might want to tackle. Very easy to use.

Although I returned my first one, the replacement has been great. Prints extremely fast on B&W draft quality. Regular printing is pretty quick. The 6 ink cartridges give better quality pictures than previous printers (other brands) that have two. I wish I could hook it up to my home network but I'll upgrade to the artisan 800 model b/c it provides fax and wireless capabilities but my teenage son will inherit my RX580 which should give him years of printing capability. The print quality on this thing is EXCELLENT! Be sure to use good paper, not the low end Kodak junk that is worthless. The best value for paper is Kirkland brand at Costco for your normal prints. This printer uses dye inks with UV protection, so when you use a good coated paper (see above) you get water resistant prints that last for decades! I bought a CIS system for mine and it still works great. A CIS system provides about 10 times as much ink in tanks compared to the original cartridges, so the cost per print is much lower. I got my CIS on eBay. The kind I got came from a guy called vtech, but I see that a guy called wow-great now has them for less money. CONS: I've had two problems that are very minor: 1) Sometimes when copying an image from the scanner bed to the CD or DVD for printing, the image seems to move off to one side for some silly reason. 2) From the first day I got the printer (at Best Buy on sale for $100), the yellow color would not show up on the nozzle check printout. It prints fine, everything perfect on actual prints, but NOT on the nozzle check routine?! FYI, at the time of this writing, I've had the printer for over six months and printed hundreds of pictures, reports, etc., all with great results.
