I bought this product because I saw a trailer for the series on a 2002 Bandai DVD Sampler, and I recognized the animation house being Madhouse, who previously made Ninja Scroll, Jubei-Chan and Jubei-Chan 2 and Oh-Edo Rocket! What I liked about this series is that it directly parodies or spoofs samurai dramas, set during the 'warning states' period (sort of like Japan's version of the wild west), when the main character is generally a wandering "male" samurai and usually assisted by a 'male' traveling companion or sidekick, out and about on their adventures. But in this case, the wandering samurai or "Ronin", is a female! Likewise, her traveling companion is also female, but that is just a minor point, as during the rest of the series, like a slice of life in a samurai drama or movie, they save people, do acts of heroism and drink a lot of rice wine or 'sake'. The only part I dislike about the series is that it's simply too short, as the studio could have done more episodes. I would compare this series with Jubei-Chan 1 and 2 and Oh-Edo Rocket!, as they strived in this series a lot of detail for the swordsmanship when it came to the slices for when a scene was called for blade slicing for both the action and humorous bits in the series; as well as the nonsensical but humorous moments in the series. All in all, an under appreciated series that should be enjoyed by both lovers of Anime and Samurai dramas.Read full review
Tsukikage Ran is a classic that is unfortunately obscure to most anime fans today. The main character, Ran, is a wandering samurai who helps out whoever she pleases and just lives however she pleases, albeit for the most part always broke and going hungry often. This basically is a slice-of-life/action/comedy anime since there is no driving plot nor ultimate end goal for the main character to achieve. Its just Ran and her day-to-day life of a samurai. She is somewhat considered a oddity since she is a female samurai, but her skills as a swordsman is almost up to par with Rurouni Kenshin, if not on equal footing. The one major con for the show is that the male character design for the most part is rather mediocre, forgettable, and rather ugly to look at. Its unfortunate since the rest of the show looks fine that the male cast is so unappealing to look at that it becomes a major detractor. But if you don't mind that, than this show is worth a look at!Read full review

The discs are in great condition and played well. This is a classic anime that is rather hard to find, and it was nice to get it at a fair price.

I only wish it was longer. A wonderful series with great female characters, and a lot of action and humor. I was very charmed by the entire thing, and only wish it was longer!
