What is unique about House of Cards is that it incorporates real-life characters into its script, playing the roles they play in real life. George Stephanopoulos plays the same role in House of Cards as he does in real life, along with many other media personalities that include Morely Safer, Donna Brazille, Gwen Ifill, John King, Meredith Viera, and Wolf Blitzer, with the 60 Minutes, CNN, and Fox News logos on screen in each case while they are "reporting"! And the show has other big names in the fictional roles which include Kate Mara, Neve Campbell, Cicely Tyson, Ellen Burstyn, and of course, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Also, the events in the show run a parallel path with real life events. Someone running for president who has never held an elected office, black lives matter, ... Not to mention all one can learn from the show, including things like "the deep web," what computer servers look like, the influence of money and power in government, the behind-the-scenes action in a newspaper editor's office, a hospital, a police station, the FBI, Homeland Security, the White House, the U.S. Capitol building, and the Secret Service, to name a few. And I love the occasional (mild) sex scenes, occasional brief nudity, and the absence of violence (for the most part). And one more thing: the show has depth. You can't take it all in from one viewing. Takes two or more viewings (most of the time) just to keep up. One example is Chapter 43 from that fourth season. Not even Albert Einstein could keep up with the fast pace of that episode in a single viewing. All told, you can't get a much better bang for your buck than from a show like this!

House of Cards isn't ready to tumble.
Let me preface this review by saying "House of Cards" season 4 standing on it's own will not entertain you unless you've watched season 1-3 first. If you enjoyed the Martin Sheen series "West Wing" you'll enjoy "House of Cards", probably more so because this Netflix series isn't bound by over the air censors. We get to watch Francis Underwood(Kevin Spacey) rise to power as a South Carolina Congressman with his eyes on the White House. Robin Wright plays his wife Claire who not only is her husbands' sounding board but has her own political aspirations. Both characters are ruthless as they plow through anyone and anything standing in their way to power. As I mentioned before, season 1-3 are must see before you watch season 4. All of the characters developed over each season continue to ... Let me preface this review by saying "House of Cards" season 4 standing on it's own will not entertain you unless you've watched season 1-3 first. Intrigue, backstabbing, back slapping, back room deals, and Washington D.C. sets, in which the series is filmed are exact replicas of the offices and rooms of the White House. I'd find a seller on ebay who is selling season 1-3 for cheap, buy them, and start a weekend of binge watching this series. Pick up plenty of popcorn and soda and lose yourself in the best political ensemble on television.

You also see characters from past seasons dig deeper into the corrupt history of the Underwoods, drawing every closer to unraveling their darkest secrets that paved the way for them into the White House. Season 4 will not disappoint and ... As usual, this next installment of House of Cards is nothing short of exciting. Every moment. Every line. Every cunning ploy by the characters puts you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next (not to mention makes you question why you root for certain characters at times). Entertaining But Unrealistic
I've watched all 5 seasons of this show and the plots have gotten more outlandish and unrealistic as it went along. I could write a book about all the nonsense in season 5, but I'll limit myself to two examples. Example 1: It's election night; After midnight Underwood calls his opponent to concede. Then they halt voting in Tennessee and Ohio because of some contrived terrorist threat. Since when are the polls anywhere still open at midnight? Example 2: Underwood leaks damning info to get himself ousted from office because he had "an epiphany" while at Elysium Fields (really Bohemian Grove) that the real power lies outside of office. Well yeah, but only if you have a few billion dollars which he doesn't.
