Rock and Roll Circus DVD (featuring John Lennon)

I had read about the Stones' Rock & Roll Circus and I was curious. The TV show was abandoned as a project but featured John Lennon (playing his track 'Yer Blues' with a makeshift band (called Dirty Mac) which was enough to intrigue me. To be honest I expected the programme to be a bit of a mess but I was pleasantly surprised and found the show quite entertaining. It was very indicative of late 60s pop culture, the audience were uniformly dressed in capes and hats and the acts were interspersed with circus performances, but that made it interesting. The Who were especially good and in spite of Mick Jagger's apparent reservations about the Stones' performance (5 songs) I thought they were pretty good. Given that Lennon featured on only two songs, including a track showcasing Yoko Ono's ...

  • A welcome visit to the 60s.

A touch of nostalgia. Nice to see these bands at their prime. An eclectic mix of 60s pop stars from Jethro Tull and the Who to Taj Mahal, not forgetting Marianne Faithfull with some epic footage of John Lennon and Yoko and the band he collected around himself following the Beatles. The Stones as the finale of this fantasmagoria perform most of the album Beggars Banquet. Nice to see Brian jones there as well. A lovely taste of the past for those historians among you, or the aged who remember the days themselves. Lets drink to the hard working people.

  • Ginuwine Fab and Groovy man

This is a terrific piece of music history, I could hardly believe it when I first saw it on TV in the 1990's. Great to have it on a DVD. Particularly loved Taj Mahal, but the whole thing is awesome, what a document. Genuinely essential watching.
