One of the greatest action platformers for the NES

Rygar for the NES has been my favorite NES game since I discovered it as a child, renting it from the local mom and pop VHS rental place. The music is epic. You can find YouTube videos of guitar players covering these tunes. The setting is grand in the way that classic NES games do so well: shows you just enough to set your imagination alight with bleak, sweeping landscapes in a ravaged world.

  • A second play through years after the first

I had this game way back growing up. While I never beat it, it was always one of my favourite games due to the great gameplay it provided. You start off as Rygar, some hero with a flying shield (I always thought it was a yoyo) that has to do something (like almost every other game) A mix of side scrolling and over head views make this game fun. Along with the mix of views there is a bit more than a usual side scrolling game since you have to get certain objects to continue in the game. A bit of rpg style leveling comes in to effect in a sense because your health, damage, and armour are powered up through the game which will allow you to take out stronger enemies with less hits to proceed in the game. There is also a magic system of sorts that you can use through the game by ...

  • Rygar is a pioneering classic of Metrovanias

Rygar is one of the earliest (good) Metrovania games. It is an action-rpg 8-bit classic with items, exploration, and interesting bosses. The one drawback is that Rygar does not have a save feature. Despite that, those interested in beautiful background scrolling, compelling music, and a classic action rpg, then you must play this pioneer, which still holds up today!

  • RYGAR, NES

Rygar is a hit-or-miss game. Many love it, and many hate it. It's sort of like Metroid in that you roam around shooting things, except Rygar is in a fantasy setting and he uses a boomerang-yoyo-shield thing instead of a gun. It's got good music, decent graphics, and great gameplay, but the thing that kills it for many people is that it does NOT have a save feature, or even a password system. This means that if you want to beat the game you need to do it all in one sitting, or leave it paused overnight while you sleep. Compounding this fault is the fact that you need to explore a lot as you're not given clear instructions on where to go. Despite these setbacks, I love this game. It's a ton of fun to just run around and fling that spiked yoyo thing at bird monsters and armadillo things, and ...

  • RYGAR NINTENDO NES GAME CLASSIC NES

Rygar is a very fun game for the nes system. If you played the arcade and never played this one you will be surprised how much depth they added to the nintendo version of this game. If you never played either of them I would recomend trying this game out. the arcade version had 100 stages that you walked threw and never changed much. This version is a adventure that has overhead views the origional side view and caves with different things in them. also some classic nes music. I find this game has a lot more depth then the arcade. It is not al long as the arcade. THis is the one downside the game is short. It can be beat in about 1 hour once you know the game. This game is still cheap and one I would recomend to anyone. This game makes my top 100 nes games. if you don't like ...
