I recently purchased the Nikon Coolpix L18 Camera from an Ebay seller. Camera is compact and easy to use, especially for anyone who has owned a Digital Nikon Camera before. It has many of the same features as my Nikon Coolpix L3 with the same overall dimensions. The Macro feature on the L18 takes clearer close-up images, which was the main reason I purchased the L18. The viewing area is twice as large on the L18 and this is much easier on my old eyes. I paid more for the L3 purchased at a local Camera store a couple years ago. One feature I don't care for on the L18 is that the SD Card slot is hidden behind the batteries, and unless one has very small fingers, you have to remove the batteries first before you can get to the SD Card. If you are like me and take a few images and take the SD Card out to plug directly into your CP for processing, its a small nuisance you have to put up with. I use rechargeable batteries in both the L3 and L18 and both need to be recharged after 12-15 images in Micro mode. Nikon lenses are among the best made in my opinion, and I would recommend their lenses over any camera comparably priced.Read full review
I love the way Nikon can make a user friendly camera that takes good pictues as well. The Coolpix L18 is not top of the line by any means, but it is very easy to use and good as an "instamatic" type of camera. I haven't used it too much yet, but noticed that the indoor, flash pictures look a little dark. I am using regular AA batteries instead of the recommended rechargeable ones, so maybe it isn't getting enough juice for a bright flash. Also, with the regular batteries, the view-screen is blurry for a second or two. I must wait until it clears to see a sharp picture. This only takes one or two seconds but it is noticeable. The camera does not have the eye-hole view finder, so you must rely on the 3" screen when composing your shots. As in all of these digital cameras, the screen is not good in bright sun, but useable. I'm satisfied for the price, but do miss the higher magnification of my other camera. This one is very convenient and fits in a pocket.Read full review
We had purchased a Nikon Coolpix for our 17-year-old son from Sam's - it was stolen from his bookbag in his bandroom. So we decided to replace it by using Ebay - great prices, great items. We were quite suprised to find how many were brand new in the box being sold and were able to purchase one at a very reasonable price. The camera is easy to use, makes great pictures, and small enough that my son can put it in his pant's pocket and go. We bought it because the camera had good reviews, not excellent which would have made the pricing out of reach, and was a fun camera. The thing we dislike the most is that the screen is so fragile. We purhase a hard case for him to store it in and it still has a fracture across it. In fact it was in the padded camera pouch it came with and a hard case so should have been really protected - he also stored it in the pocket of his bookbag that was high and never on the floor. Oh well, you live and learn. He still can make pictures, he just can't review them instantly, must wait until he downloads to his computer. Thank you!Read full review
this camera is the best one we and I have ever owned-BUT- the 164 page owners/users manual is interesting reading. My wife took the time to read the online manual and before long had the time and date programmed in, I suggest taking one of the batteries out and leaving that one reversed when the camera is not being used--like if it is on the shelf for a week in between trips. once we hit the road then we put the battery in correctly--this allows tremendous battery life. The best feature is the huge screen you view taking pictures and then by pushing one button- you can view your just taken picture--this is very nice and very easy to use. Like I said this is the best camera we have ever owned and I am 65 yrs old now!
I won one of these great little cameras as an upgrade to my servicable but bulky Kodak which takes great pictures but it does not travel easy. I was throughly impressed by how quick and easy to use this camera was even without the instructions or software. The photos and the video images were very good and the sound for the video was surprisingly clear. My only problem it the slight lag in still photos. I was worried that this camera could take great stills and would suffer with active shots. Overall I was so pleased and my 8 year old liked it so much I got her one just like it as her first real digital camera and paid little more than the childrens 3.1 MP kids tough cameras. Now at least she can make her crazy movies and take her own clear pictures. She has her own case and memory card and the size is perfect for travel and small hands.Read full review
good optics, easy to use, decent features... most of the settings are pretty intuitive. the lens covers are a bit fragile, looking at later models (L 20) Nikon got smarter and found a better way. Otherwise, it does what it needs to quite well in a small package. I like the fact it uses aAA batteries and I keep a spare set in the charger, with 4 of these I can take pictures all day long.
This is a very affordable middle of the road camera. It has nice features and a pretty decent zoom 3x & 4x. I love the large viewscreen (LCD). It runs off of AA batteries so that is handy as well. Camera has movie mode and several picture modes like black and white etc. This is a great entry level or intermediate level camera for the money.
i do like the clear image, and i can edit the image right away... it's very2 user friendly, i don't even need to read the manual... and the delay between each shot are less than 2 sec, so you don't missed a thing... too bad there's no night mode, so you can take picture inthe dark without flash... and the energy saving feature kinda annoying, because i cannot set the time the lcd turn off... overal, this camera is a one fun package to carry with you on your vacation
I bought my first Nikon L18 in Jan 2009, after using it for more than 18 months, I bought my second L18. The best feature I love this camera is it takes excellent pictures under low light condition. I have used more than ten point and shoot digitals, with Sony SW150, Sony S700, Nikon 5400, Nikon 8400, Olympus 400, Kodak, Fuji, Richon, etc...this camera gives me the best night scene shoot quality. I use it mostly during my travel abroad, and I can't go without bringing it with me. The video gives excellent quality shoot as well, even though it's not HD quality. Date/time inprint is also a feature I required, which none of the Canon point and shoot has it, that's why I never bought Canon (hear it has good picture quality as well). 3 inch display is also another plus on L18. Some users complained the camera eats batteries, and they need to change batteries after every 12-18 shoot. I used Rayovac 3 x rechargable batteris, and it worked very well on this camera, and I can take 150-200 pictures, without charging it. Rayovac is my favorite rechargeable battery brand now. It lasts longer than Duracell battery several times. My first camera did have minor mechanical problem after using it for about a year: SD memory card became difficult to insert in. I have to made number of attempts then a SD memory card can click in position. That's why I decided to buy my second L18. I bought my 2nd L18 in Oct 2010. I bought both with re-fab condition, $68 each, but the picture quality this camera took better than the ones I spend hundres of dollars purchased, especially in night or indoor condition. I believe this is a very importan factor to judge a camera is good or not so good, since every camera (even one time used 35mm) now days can take very good pictures under normal light condition, so I don't want to say anything for it on this camera.Read full review
The Nikon L18 is a basic point and shoot camera. It is ideal for someone who needs a camera without wanting to study manuals and change settings all the time. I bought this as a little carry-along everywhere camera that uses AA batteries and takes up very little space. Picture quality is fair but that is what I expected. For high quality photos, use a DSLR, and I use mine when required. The L18 is well priced, it is compact, easy to use but do have limitations. You do need to know what you want to use your camera for. It is perfect for all occasion, anytime photo taking! Enjoy!
